The schedule details for all four public hearings of the Special Committee investigating Delaware’s recent statewide property reassessment have officially been announced!

🗓️ Hearing 1: September 30 at 9:30 a.m. – Senate Chamber
🗓️ Hearing 2: October 7 at 9:30 a.m. – House Chamber
🗓️ Hearing 3: October 21 at 9:30 a.m. – House Chamber
🗓️ Hearing 4: November 4 at 9:30 a.m. – Senate Chamber

Each meeting will be open to the public and will include presentations from stakeholders and experts, opportunities for committee Q&A, and dedicated time for public comment. Additional details, including presenters and agenda topics, will be released ahead of each hearing.

Members of the public can also tune into the meeting virtually on the General Assembly’s website, legis.delaware.gov.

Delaware is working for the people, and that means stronger protections, clearer notices, and increased accountability from utility companies.

A new law, HB 62, ensures Delawareans are treated fairly. Here’s how it helps:
⚠️ No shutoffs after-hours! Delaware utilities can’t turn off your services outside 8am–4pm, Monday through Thursday.
🎄 Holiday protection: From Dec 21 to Jan 1, utility companies aren’t allowed to shut off your services.
🥶🔥 35°F below and 90°F above: Utilities can’t be shut off
📬 14-day heads-up required: Utility companies must give you written notice at least 14 days in advance before cutting service.
💸 New penalties. More protections: Utility shutoff violations can now come with up to $1,000 in fines.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Rep. Melissa Minor-Brown and Senate President Pro Tempore Sen. Dave Sokola announced committee assignments for the newly created special committees tasked with investigating Delaware’s first statewide property reassessment in more than two generations.

The special committees, formally announced by Democratic leadership last week, will hold a series of public hearings this fall to review the recent reassessment process and consider potential legislative action to improve the process, as well as explore options to provide targeted tax relief for Delawareans.

Please see below the tentative schedule for the special committees. All meetings will be held in the House or Senate Chamber at Legislative Hall and are open to the public:
