Easter is known around the world for multi-coloured, decorated eggs. But in Greece you will find only red ones.

Red is the colour of life, you see, as well as a representation of the blood of Christ. The eggs are used in a game called tsougrisma, which means “clinking together” or “clashing,” and tests the eggs’ strength. Players crack the eggs together and the one whose egg remains intact is crowned the victor.

From ancient times, the egg has been a symbol of the renewal of life, and the message of the red eggs is victory over death. Got it?

In an attempt to raise awareness about the dwindling bilby population, and promote native wildlife over European-introduced rabbits, confectioners in Australia have taken to making chocolate likenesses of this small rabbit-size marsupial.

The bilby once occupied 80% of the continent, but now only exists in a few remote regions in Western Australia, Queensland, and the Northern Territory, and is considered vulnerable to extinction. This is due to habitat loss and predation by foxes,cats, and other introduced species.

Australians can scoff at will, knowing that every bite they take is helping to save an endangered species.
