Why choose Diamond over steel?

Reusability and preformance.

On the left is a #11 surgical scalpel, which can be found in nearly every operating room. To the naked eye the blade point looks to be nearly perfect. At 350x however, you can see the point is rounded and the cutting edge has small imperfections. These blades are cheap and can only be used only once before being disgarded.

On the right is one of our recently sharpened diamond blades. At 350x the point and edge are virtually flawless. These blades are so sharp, that at the molecular level, individual molecules are pushed apart without causing tissue damage when an incision is made. Unlike steel blades, diamond blades are 100% sustainable and with proper care can be reused for thousands of procedures without needing to be resharpened.

From Stick to Scalpel

The 1.0mm Tri-Square, aka Triple 90° or “Woody Davis”

The Process: Raw diamond material is processed into a “blank stick” according to dimensions specified by the customer. Our Master Craftsman individually facet and polish each cutting edge to our clients design specifications. After the blade is roughly shaped, it is delicately sharpened to a sub micron ultra-fine edge. Once sharpening is complete and sizing tolerances are met, the finished blade is mounted into a titanium handle, typically with multiple or adjustable depth options.

Fun Fact: A diamond blade has an edge so sharp that when an incision is made, individual molecules are literally pushed apart without causing any damage to the existing cells. You would think a “square point” wouldn’t pe*****te well but, the Tri-Square is no different. It is designed and used primarily for ICRS, Astigmatic and Keratome surgery. It can preform a 1mm radial incision at 70-80% of corneal thickness. When it’s paired with a micrometer handle, the depth of cut can be adjusted anywhere between 0-2500 microns, providing the surgeon with a wide range of versatility. (Depth range may vary depending on handle design)

The “Shepherd MAC”

This blade came to us needing some serious work. Although a lot of effort was required, we love a good challenge, and were able to restore this blade back to it’s former glory. Not only will it preform as good as new, it will look good while doing it.

Fun Fact: This blade style was originally designed by Diamatrix Ltd. in conjunction with John Shepherd, M.D. of Las Vegas, NV. The unique features of the Shepherd MAC include parallel sides, with asymmetric bevels, which create a linear incision and aid in preventing accidental enlargement. Additionally, its shoulder enhancements have sharp sides that allow for controlled incision enlargement if desired. These blades are typically offered in a variety of sizes to fit any phaco/injector system used today.
