🌱 Rest is not “doing nothing.”
For so many horse owners, giving their horse time off can feel like wasted time, but actually, rest is one of the most powerful tools we have in rehabilitation and performance.

Muscles repair, tissues adapt, the nervous system recalibrates all during periods of quiet and recovery. Just like athletes, horses need that balance between work and rest to truly thrive. So next time you find yourself feeling guilty for giving your horse a few easy days (or even weeks), remember, you’re not holding them back at all, you’re setting them up for long term soundness, comfort and success 🙏

Thoughts 💭 on the massage gun?
The gluteal muscles power your horse’s movement and often carry tension around the pelvis. Skilled hands in my opinion remain the most effective way to assess and release these muscles, but massage guns can sometimes be a useful addition for supporting deeper muscle fibres.

⚠️ Please just always seek guidance from your qualified equine massage therapist before use. They can advise on safe settings, suitable areas, and how to integrate the tool into your horse’s care plan.

Subclavian Release! This summer more than ever with the hard ground, have you noticed your horse feeling a bit tight in the shoulders or taking shorter strides in front? One area that often holds a lot of tension is the subclavian region.

A subclavian release is superb to:
✅ Free up shoulder movement
✅ Improve stride length
✅ Help your horse feel softer and lighter in their work
✅ Release tension through the neck and chest (has important links with Brachiocephalicus and Pectoral areas)

When this area is tight, horses may struggle to stretch into the contact or move with true freedom. A subclavian release encourages the muscles and fascia to relax, giving them back that lovely swing and reach.

I have found this issue with all of my regular clients over the last few weeks!!!

I have a few appointments still available for the beginning of September. Please text or call me 858-922-6439 to get your equine partner booked!!!

It’s ! Let’s take a moment to celebrate and thank our farriers!

Proper foot care is the cornerstone of maintaining a sound horse, and a good farrier is an essential part of your equine's healthcare team, keeping your horse’s feet balanced and well-supported. Farriers, veterinarians and massage therapists often work together for the best interests of the horse, so a skilled farrier is both a necessity and a tremendous asset. Be sure to let your farriers know they are appreciated!

A huge shot out to my farriers Erick Frick and Bob Richmond!!!

Recent research shows that oxytocin—often called the “bonding” or “feel-good” hormone—is released in response to certain types of touch, including therapeutic techniques like massage and myofascial release. While oxytocin is known for fostering relaxation and emotional connection, it also plays a key role in promoting healing and supporting tissue repair.

In horses, oxytocin release can:
• Reduce stress and anxiety
• Promote a sense of safety and trust
• Strengthen emotional bonds
• Modulate pain
• Enhance the body’s ability to rest, digest, and repair

Massage therapy that uses calm, intentional touch can help stimulate oxytocin, supporting both the physical and emotional well-being of the horse.

All bodywork is not equal.
