Veterans Day is a special time of celebration here at Wesley Village. Thank you, City of Wilmore, Kentucky, for routing the parade on Saturday through the campus, allowing our residents, including those in healthcare, to enjoy the display! On Tuesday, our Veterans Committee, led by Captain Dean Cook, created a fabulous program. They recognized our World War II veteran, Kedrick Flynn, and our Korean War veteran, Ed Griswold, who recently answered the call of duty to heaven. We are grateful to Colonel Tim Moore from Lamb & Lion Ministries for delivering a patriotic and inspirational message. Thank you to all who participated and helped us commemorate this momentous occasion.

Aging Reimagined has been and is still the theme at Wesley Village. Our CEO, Glenda Creech, shared a recap of the past 30 years of innovation. She challenged us not to rest on our laurels, but to exercise Holy Imagination and build more small homes such as our Holloway Cottage for Memory Care, and various sized patio homes to meet a spectrum of budgets and needs. There will be Walking Trails which feature destination areas, including butterfly gardens and eco-friendly landscaping elements designed to manage stormwater and improve sustainability (bioswales). We plan to preserve the land God has given us and build responsibly and with innovation. Other upgrades include solar powered greenhouses with raised bed gardens, plus pickleball and tennis courts, to meet the needs of a growing aging population. Following Glenda, Gregory Turay and Claire Vance blessed us with their special program of, “Sacred Roots and Living Legacy,” which they were commissioned to create for the 250th Anniversary of Lexington by Mayor Linda Gordon. We enjoyed a wonderful night of delicious food, vision and inspiration.

“Anyone who keeps learning stays young,” a quote attributed to Henry Ford. Wesley Village ascribes to this adage, and Christine Lyon, our Wesley Village Singers music director, has been conducting classes teaching our residents how to read music. As you can see, the class is enjoyed by all. Christine brings the challenges in fun and engaging methods. Graduation day will be an interesting crescendo! Another example of how we are not your typical retirement community!
