Spring is no small thing around here… it’s preparation, sweat, muddy hands, and the quiet joy of watching life wake back up 🌱

Yesterday i worked early in the morning til later afternoon, I was out in the soil planting with purpose—building raised beds, planting flowers for Monarch butterflies (not pictured 🦋), horseradish roots from a sweet local trade, and a few more herbs finding their home in the meadow.

And now? Everything is sprouting like crazy. It feels like possibility is rising right up out of the ground.

There’s something sacred about this season—the work we put in now becomes the nourishment, the remedies, the beauty we’ll gather later.

➡️So tell me…What are you planting this spring? 🌿

There’s something special about that first harvest…

The moment you spot both broadleaf and narrowleaf plantain rising up from the earth—strong, resilient, right on time. Not planted by your hand, yet faithfully provided.

And if you know… you know.

This isn’t just a “weed.”

This is one of nature’s most faithful healers.

🌿 First Harvest Plantain = Potent Medicine

Broadleaf and narrowleaf plantain may look simple, but they are power-packed drawing herbs—exactly why they’ve been a cornerstone in traditional Amish drawing salves for generations.

When you harvest them fresh, vibrant, and full of life… you’re capturing their peak potency.

✨ Why Plantain BELONGS in Drawing Salve

🌱 It Draws—Gently but Effectively
Plantain has a unique ability to help pull things out of the skin:
• splinters
• stingers
• toxins
• infection

It doesn’t force—it coaxes the body to release what doesn’t belong.

🌱 It Soothes While It Works
Unlike harsh remedies, plantain brings relief as it draws.
• calms inflammation
• eases itching
• reduces redness

It’s comfort and correction in one.

🌱 It Supports Skin Repair
Plantain doesn’t just pull—it rebuilds.
• encourages tissue healing
• supports cell regeneration
• helps close and restore damaged skin

This is why wounds treated with plantain often heal cleaner and faster.

🌱 It’s God-Grown & Accessible
Growing right beneath our feet, in yards, along paths, and in wild places—plantain is a reminder:

Provision doesn’t always come from far away…

Sometimes it’s already right where you are.

🌿 Why It’s Essentia Mackey Meadows Drawing Salve

Traditional salves are known for one thing:
👉 They work.

And plantain is a key reason why.

Combined with other drawing agents, it creates a balanced salve that:
• pulls impurities out
• calms the skin
• supports deep healing

It’s not just an ingredient—it’s a foundation.

✨ From the Field to the Jar

That first harvest carries intention.

Hands gathering.
Leaves chosen carefully.
A process rooted in tradition and purpose.

Because what goes into the salve… matters.

And when plantain is part of it, you’re not just making a product—

You’re continuing a legacy of simple, powerful, effective healing.

🌿 Mackey Meadows Reminder

Don’t overlook what’s growing wild right now.

That humble plant at your feet?

It might be exactly what your body has been needing.

And when you turn it into something like a drawing salve…

You’re turning provision into purpose.

🌿 Goldenrod: The Overlooked Powerhouse You Don’t Want to Miss

Goldenrod often gets mistaken as just another roadside flower… but in the world of herbal medicine, it has quietly earned its place as a trusted, effective plant ally for generations.

Let’s talk about why 👇

✨ What the research and tradition show:

✔️ Urinary Tract Support
Goldenrod has been widely studied for its natural diuretic properties—helping the body flush excess fluid and support kidney and urinary tract function.
👉 Studies have shown it can increase urine flow without depleting electrolytes, making it a gentle but effective cleanser.

✔️ Anti-Inflammatory Power
Goldenrod contains active compounds like flavonoids and saponins that have demonstrated anti-inflammatory effects, helping calm irritation in the body—especially in the urinary and respiratory systems.

✔️ Respiratory & Sinus Relief
Traditionally used for congestion, Goldenrod helps open airways and reduce mucus buildup. Herbalists have long relied on it during seasonal shifts when the body needs extra support.

✔️ Allergy Support (Surprising Truth!)
Despite the myth, Goldenrod does not cause seasonal allergies—ragweed does.
In fact, Goldenrod has been used to help reduce allergy symptoms by supporting the body’s natural response to inflammation.

📊 Why people are turning back to herbs like Goldenrod:

• Over 70% of the world still relies on plant medicine as a primary form of care
• Herbal diuretics like Goldenrod are often preferred for being gentler and more supportive than synthetic options
• Growing interest in natural remedies continues to rise as people seek clean, simple, effective solutions

🌿 Why choose Mackey Meadows Goldenrod Tincture?

Because not all herbal products are created equal.

At Mackey Meadows, we believe effectiveness starts long before it reaches the bottle:

✨ Wildcrafted or thoughtfully sourced herbs
✨ Small-batch extraction for maximum potency
✨ No fillers, no shortcuts—just clean, intentional ingredients
✨ Made with the purpose of truly supporting your body

This isn’t just a tincture—it’s stewardship from plant to product.

💛 The Bottom Line

Goldenrod is:
✔️ Gentle yet effective
✔️ Deeply supportive to key body systems
✔️ Rooted in both tradition and growing modern validation

And when prepared with care… it becomes a powerful addition to your wellness routine.

Talk about planning for the future.

This is the hardest and most work I’ve put into something that will not grow provision for about 2-3 years. 😅

But after that I’ll reap about 15 years of growing seasons from it.

The story of a small business… told through its labels.📖

➡️From where we started to where we are today—every label has mattered. Each one holds a piece of the journey. Each design, each change, marks a season of learning, stretching, refining.

😍They tell the story of growth.
Of figuring it out as we go.
Of stumbling at times… and choosing to keep moving forward anyway.

🫶🏻Because this was never just about making a product—it was about how we present it to you.

♥️Behind every label has been a heart full of hope… and a deep desire to show up well. To offer something that is not only clean and beautiful, but also clear. Easy to understand. Intentional. So that what you’re holding in your hands can truly be used to its fullest purpose.

😅This journey has been one of molding—of vision becoming clearer over time.

And what you see now is not the beginning…
It’s the result of every step that came before it 🤍🪶

Herbalism asks us to step outside of the “one symptom = one solution” mindset we’ve been taught.

Plants don’t work like that… and honestly, neither do our bodies.

When you begin to think outside the box with your remedies, something shifts. You stop seeing your tinctures, teas, and oils as single-purpose—and start recognizing them as whole-body allies.

Because herbs are multifaceted by design.

That calming herb you reach for at night?
It might also be supporting your digestion.

That immune blend you grab when sickness hits?
It’s likely working on inflammation, lymph flow, and overall resilience too.

That “hormone support” tincture?
It may be nourishing your nervous system, liver, and emotional balance all at once.

🌿 Plants don’t isolate. They layer support.

And this is where the freedom comes in—

You don’t need a cabinet full of 50 different things to start supporting your body well.

You need:
• Awareness
• Consistency
• A willingness to trust the plants

Look at what you already have.

Ask yourself:
👉 What systems could this herb be supporting beyond what I bought it for?
👉 Where in my body do I feel imbalance—and how might this plant gently meet me there?

Start using your remedies more intuitively.

Use your liver tincture when your skin is flaring.
Reach for your nervine blend when your digestion feels off.
Use your immune support even when you’re not sick—because building the terrain matters.

This is how herbalism becomes a lifestyle, not just a reaction.

And here’s the truth most people don’t realize:

🌿 The body rarely needs something new…
It needs something used consistently and creatively.

So grab what you have.

Use it.
Learn it.
Experience it.

Chances are… it’s going to help in more ways than you expected.

➡️Transdermal iodine
Testing your needs: apply to your inner arm like in the picture. Be sure it’s dry before allowing it to touch clothes or it will stain. Set a timer for 5 hours - checking every hour to be sure it’s still there. If it absorbs before 5 hours you are most likely deficient and would benefit from applying daily til it’s stays 5 hours or longer. If it’s still there 5 hours later your levels should be pretty close to enough. I like to apply every so often to test and give myself a dose of iodine.
Here’s why:

Advantages to Transdermal application:

• bypasses digestive tract
• gradual absorption
• can avoid GI irritation

Where absorbed iodine goes in the body:

👌🏼Once iodine enters circulation it behaves the same as oral iodine.
How much iodine could realistically absorb?

➡️Example estimate.

If someone applies 10 mg iodine to skin:

With 1% absorption

Systemic iodine ≈ 0.1 mg (100 mcg)

Which is roughly:

• close to the daily recommended intake (~150 mcg).

‼️However absorption can vary widely depending on skin conditions.

Thyroid saturation effect

This is a fascinating and lesser-known medical use.

Topical iodine has been shown to:

• raise iodine levels enough to affect thyroid uptake

Example:
It has been used to block radioactive iodine absorption in emergency settings.

This proves:
👉 iodine on the skin can impact whole-body iodine status, not just the surface.

Another way I love to apply it is to my throat over my thyroid area of my neck if it’s sore or have a lot of drainage.

⬇️Let me know if you have tried this before or if you do test share your results.

Many people assume “more drops = more effective.”
But we often find the 20–30 drop range for ADULTS is a sweet spot for many tinctures.

Here’s why.

1. The Body Absorbs Small Liquid Doses Extremely Well

Tinctures are already extracted plant compounds in a liquid form.

When taken in small doses:

• they absorb quickly through the mucous membranes
• they enter the bloodstream rapidly
• they stimulate the body without overwhelming it

Large doses sometimes don’t increase effectiveness because the body can only utilize so much at once.

2. Herbal Medicine Often Works Through Signaling

Many herbs work less like pharmaceuticals and more like biological signals to the body.

A small amount can:

• stimulate digestion
• activate liver enzymes
• encourage immune response
• influence nervous system balance

Think of it like tapping a switch, not flooding a system.

3. Repeated Small Doses Are Often Stronger

Traditional herbalists frequently recommend:

Small doses taken more frequently.

Example:
• 20 drops
• 2–4 times per day

Instead of:
• one very large dose

This keeps plant compounds circulating steadily in the body.

4. Larger Doses Can Sometimes Stress Detox Pathways

This matters especially in things like:

• parasite cleanses
• liver detox protocols
• antimicrobial herbs

Too much too quickly can create:

• stronger die-off reactions
• headaches
• nausea
• fatigue

Gentler dosing allows the body to process toxins gradually.

5. Many Historic Herbal Texts Used Drop Dosing

Older herbal traditions often recommended very small tincture doses.

For example:

Many Eclectic physicians in the 1800s prescribed 5–30 drop doses of potent extracts.

So the modern idea that tinctures must be full droppers every time isn’t always traditional herbal practice.

🤧 IS IT REALLY ALLERGIES…
OR COULD IT BE PARASITES?

Every spring people assume the same thing:

“Pollen is killing me this year.”

But here’s something most people have never been told…

Many parasite infections trigger the exact same immune response as allergies.

Why?

Because parasites stimulate the body to release histamine — the same chemical involved in allergic reactions.

That means parasite activity can create symptoms that look like seasonal allergies.

You might experience:

• Constant sinus congestion
• Itchy eyes or skin
• Sneezing fits
• Post-nasal drip
• Chronic fatigue
• Digestive bloating
• Random food sensitivities

And here’s the surprising part…

When parasites irritate the gut and liver, the body becomes more reactive to environmental triggers like pollen, dust, and mold.

So people think:

“Spring allergies are just worse this year.”

But the real issue may be that the body is overloaded internally.

This is why many herbal traditions recommend doing a gentle parasite cleanse in the spring — the season when the body naturally wants to detox and renew.

At Mackey Meadows, we focus on supporting the body with plant allies that have been used for generations to help restore balance.

Because sometimes the goal isn’t to suppress symptoms…

It’s to remove what’s irritating the body in the first place.

🌿 Support the gut
🌿 Support the liver
🌿 Support the body’s natural defenses

👇 Honest question:
Have your “allergies” gotten worse over the last few years?

Drop a YES in the comments if spring hits you harder than it used to. 🌿
