Ever wondered why we hand you a card and don’t just ask at the top of class if you’re okay with a hands-on adjustment?
I started my yoga journey in the early 2000s when hands on adjustments were a given. It led to many uncomfortable moments and several injuries. I deeply believe that you are your best teacher, and I am never going to push or pull your body into a shape you don’t feel good in. We’re not making shapes, we’re trying to connect deeper to ourselves.
Consent to me is a constant conversation, not one and done. There are many times I’ve felt fantastic at the top of class and as the class progresses really wanted to be in my own space. That’s the nature of the practice, it dislodges the sticky stuff and that can be a lot. Our consent cards are a small way to keep that conversation going. We’re still going to communicate with you during an adjustment, you guide us to know what is helping and what didn’t feel right, but this way we know when to give your your space.
This is your time and your journey, we’re here to walk with you, not determine your path.
