Dr. Lesko joins our practice as the Chief of Anesthesia Services for the newly opened Wi******er Gastroenterology Purcellville Endoscopy.

Prior to joining our practice, Dr. Lesko held the position of Chief of Anesthesia for the GI Endoscopy Center of Northern Virginia, located in Alexandria, Virginia, for over 10 years.

We're grateful he's chosen to join our team for the next phase of his career. Welcome Dr. Lesko!

We are proud to offer a new GI service - Liver Elastography!

Learn more about this non-evasive test ⬇️

Most people with a chronic liver condition do NOT progress to clinically significant liver disease, but some do. Those that progress do so by forming scars (fibrosis) in the liver. In fact, cirrhosis is simply a liver with lots of scars. Therefore, determining the level of scarring (fibrosis) is THE key to determine the significance of a chronic liver condition.

This can be easily done by a test known as Liver elastography. This test sends high-frequency sound waves through your liver and measures the speed of the sound wave (sound waves travel faster through a hard substance). Since a "scarred" liver is a "hard" liver, this test is the best test to determine liver scarring.

The preparation is simple. You should arrive in our practice with loose fitting upper clothing (We need to access the right side of your lower rib cage). You should also NOT eat or drink for 3 hours prior to the test. Then one of our medical assistants will perform at least 10 measurements of your liver stiffness. It only takes about 5 to 10 minutes and then you can be on your way.
