Lights of Love Shines Bright! Thank you to everyone who joined us for the 38th Annual Lights of Love Tree Lighting Ceremony last night! This cherished tradition honors loved ones and supports our community in a beautiful way. Proceeds go to support the Stronger Together Campaign (valleyhealthlink.com/stronger). A special thank you to Doug Koch, our honorary tree lighter, for making the evening even more memorable! Doug is a driver for our courtesy shuttle and was instrumental in training the original volunteers at the Cancer Center and has been committed to their success since it opened nine years ago.

He earned both his undergraduate and graduate degrees in exercise physiology from West Virginia University. Dr. Haffner completed medical school at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in St. Kitts. He went on to complete his internship and family medicine residency at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.

Join us in welcoming Lawson Smith, MD, to Valley Health Urgent Care! Dr. Smith is a board-certified physician specializing in family medicine.

Dr. Smith received his Master of Science in Epidemiology from Tulane University, where he contributed to large-scale research on nutritional epidemiology and mental health. He earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans, LA. He completed his residency at the Shenandoah Valley Family Medicine Residency Program in Front Royal, VA.

Dr. Smith’s core passion is preventing illness and reversing chronic disease. He believes medicine is most powerful when it’s proactive, not reactive, and helps patients build stronger, healthier lives through early intervention, thoughtful planning, and long-term partnership.

When he’s not caring for patients, Dr. Smith enjoys outdoor adventures, lifting, and training in martial arts. He values time with his wife and kids, and believes that true health is rooted in strength, purpose, and connection.
