One of our wonderful residents is a Jane Austen enthusiast who has kindly created a captivating display of Jane's books and videos. This collection is showcased in a China cabinet located in the Commons area, above the lobby. Beside the display, there is a notebook for visitors to leave comments. The exhibit will only be available for a few more days, so if you are a fan, be sure to stop by over the weekend to pay tribute to this remarkable writer. 📖💕✍

Each Wednesday, everyone looks forward to the 'Coffee with Administration' meeting, where residents and staff members make announcements about upcoming events and projects. Usually, Jeannie Shiley, CEO and President, conducts the gatherings, providing consistency that residents and staff rely on. When Jeannie is out of the office, a Department Head steps in.

Today, we had the pleasure of being addressed by CFO Duane Wernecke. Duane always has a few jokes to lighten the mood, but today he delighted all who watched in person or on the internal channel by donning this fabulous Tom the Turkey ensemble. It was a bit difficult to take him seriously, and we are all thankful that Jeannie will be back next week. 😉🦃👍

Our November Pet of the Month is Charlie, owned by residents Walt and Courtenay Mullen. He is a true senior and will turn 17 on December 9. The Mullens say he has always lived up to his name and is truly a “good time Charlie.” He has adapted quite well to his new life at SVWC and is honored to be the “November Pet of the Month”. What a lovable-looking pup! 💕🐾🐕👍

Yesterday's annual Christmas Resale Shop Sale drew lots of shoppers looking for holiday bargains...and boy did they find them! There were trees, ornaments, paper napkins, wreaths, blankets, sweaters, tableware, you name it, and we had it! Our "November Culture Change Champions" are Carson Ganoe, Chris Miller, Shawn Gilhuys, and Patrick Hott!

Moving can be challenging, cumbersome, and scary. This is often true for our residents and their families. When someone who is living with cognitive impairment needs to move, the staff has to proceed a little differently. This was on full display when four of our maintenance crew members recently moved a resident to their new home in the Blue Ridge Hall Memory Care neighborhood.

They took their time, listened to the family member, offered support and encouragement, and set up the apartment as closely as possible to the resident’s former residence. The hope was that, when the new resident arrived, she couldn't help but be impressed by how beautiful it turned out to be!

The staff members put the resident's needs first and took a very person-centered approach to the entire move. These individuals may not have even been aware of the impact they had on the transition; however, their influence was felt by the resident, their family member, and all the other employees who participated in this transition.

Thank you, Patrick, Shawn, Carson, and Chris, for your hard work and dedication to our residents. You touch lives every day! 👍💕👏

We are thrilled to announce that Leslie Knotts has joined SVWC as the Director of Human Resources. With her more than seventeen years of progressive experience in human resources and project management within the manufacturing and service industries, Leslie is a valuable addition to our team.

Leslie's academic journey is equally impressive. She holds a bachelor’s degree in business management from Radford University and a master’s degree in human resource management from Southern New Hampshire University. Her dedication to her field is further demonstrated by her earning the SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) credential in 2025. We are excited to have her on board at SVWC!
