It’s time for a Friday Provider Spotlight! 👩‍⚕️

Shelby Sprang is one of many amazing medical providers at FWH. Her passion for primary care services has allowed for her to become one of the main faces you will see in the F.W. Huston Family Practice Clinic on a daily basis. Shelby loves being able to give back to her community and it shows with each patient visit she completes!

🏥 Why FWH: “I started here as a student and I knew, given the opportunity, that I would love to serve the rural community my family and I are a part of. My passion has always been rural health and FWH provides excellent care and resources for all who come our way!”

🎓 Education:
- Bachelors of Science in Nursing, University of Kansas School of Nursing
- Doctor of Nursing Practice, University of Kansas School of Nursing. Rock Chalk!

🩺 Experience:
- 8 years of pediatric nursing experience working at Children's Mercy ICU and Urgent Care
- DNP training in rural communities and hospitals
- Nearly 4 years as an APRN at F.W. Huston Medical Center

🪖 Fun Fact: “I started my nursing training joining the University of Kansas Air Force ROTC with hopes to graduate an officer and be a flight nurse in the military. I had the opportunity to fly and be on board refueling B52 bombers, war simulations and field medical training. I learned pretty quickly I was not cut out for nursing care while in flight as my motion sickness got the best of me. I don't regret all the 5am runs through campus chanting our cadences and the awesome friends I made who live all the over world serving our military today.”

🏡 Outside of work, Shelby, her husband, and 3 kids spend their days taking care of their cattle and farm and sneaking away to travel to US national parks whenever they get an opportunity. Their little travelers have had many great experiences!

Thank you to the students of Jefferson County North High School for choosing us as one of their community clean up day destinations! While we didn’t have a lot of leaves to be raked, we had plenty of memories to be made!

Did you know that F.W. Huston Senior Living Center is a PEAK facility? We could go on all day about the amazing components of the PEAK program, but the most important piece is Personal-Centered Care. Our facility maintains a homelike atmosphere with resident-driven initiatives at the forefront. In conjunction with these initiatives, we are happy to share that we continue to be at a Level 6 and were recognized for that work at the 2025 Person-Centered Care Conference. We came home with even more appreciation for what we do and a very large sign!

The Halloween fun just keeps on coming! Thank you to the Jefferson County North Elementary School for brining your students to our facility to trick-or-treat. Our residents and staff loved getting to load the kids up with candy and seeing their fun costumes! 🎃👻🍬

Our staff are fortunate to hear healthcare success stories every day within the walls of our facility. However, they become even more special when they are able to share them with the world. The Quimbys underwent a frightening moment that nobody wants to endure. Luckily, the dedicated staff at F.W.
