This holiday season, our incredible Windber Hospice volunteers helped prepare 82 Christmas gift bags for our patients—each one filled with comfort, care, and kindness. 🎄💛
The bags included donated crocheted lap blankets and items purchased through volunteer donations, such as lotion, chapstick, fruit cups, pudding, applesauce, crackers, cookies, muffins, candy, and more. Each gift was made even more special with a handmade Christmas card.
Thank you to every volunteer who contributed their time, generosity, and caring spirit to this meaningful project.

💗 With gratitude and appreciation… 💗
Today, we extend our heartfelt thanks to Trudi Brown, MD, FACS, as she retires from her role as Medical Director at the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center.

Dr. Brown joined our team in the fall of 2018, bringing decades of surgical expertise and a deep commitment to caring for patients facing both benign and malignant breast disease. Throughout her time at JMBCC, she provided compassionate care, trusted leadership, and steady guidance to thousands of patients and families during some of life’s most difficult moments.

We are truly grateful for the skill, dedication, and kindness she shared with our community, and we wish Dr. Brown all the very best in her well-earned retirement and the next chapter ahead. 💗

As we look forward, Paramjeet Kaur, MD, fellowship-trained breast surgeon, is now accepting new patients at the Joyce Murtha Breast Care Center, ensuring continued access to expert, compassionate breast care close to home.

🚶‍♀️🎄 Maintain Don’t Gain — Tip of the Week #5: Aim for 5,000 Steps a Day
It’s Christmas week, and the hustle and bustle is real! While 10,000 steps often gets the spotlight, remember — every step counts. This week’s goal is simple and achievable:
👟 Try to get 5,000 steps a day

Here are a few easy ways to fit movement into busy holiday days:
🛒 Take extra steps in grocery aisles, stores, or parking lots
🪑 Get up from your desk every hour or two for a quick walk
🧘‍♂️ Move while you sit — ankle circles, leg lifts, chair stretches, or gentle twists

Any movement helps improve circulation, support heart health, and manage holiday stress. And don’t forget to breathe! 😊
Happy Holidays — keep moving, one step at a time! 💪✨

On December 3, Windber Hospice welcomed families to Calvary United Methodist Church for Light Up a Life, an evening of remembrance honoring loved ones who passed this year. 🕯️✨
With the theme “Making Memories Shine This Season,” families decorated luminary bags in memory of those they cherish, while messages of comfort were shared by Hospice Chaplain Geita Gresh. Music Therapist Rachel Allen provided peaceful harp music and song, light refreshments were served, and a visit from Santa brought warmth and smiles to the evening.
A beautiful night of remembrance, reflection, and love. 💛

🧘‍♀️💙 Maintain Don’t Gain — Week 4 Goal: Breathe!
With just 10 days until December 25, it’s normal to feel more stressed as you juggle cleaning, decorating, shopping, baking, wrapping—and everyday life. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, you’re not alone. Take a moment to pause, ask for help when needed, and remember to breathe. 🌬️
✨ This week’s goal: Schedule deep breathing for 3–5 minutes, 3 times a day.
Deep breathing helps relax your muscles, mind, and blood vessels.
Posture matters—sit up straight to get more air into your lungs.
Try this rhythm: inhale 4 counts, hold 4, exhale 4. Repeat.
That’s just 15 minutes out of your day—and it can lower stress, heart rate, and blood pressure while improving focus and calm. Give it a try and see how much better you feel heading back to your holiday to-do list. 😊
