Barrow County EMS is honored to announce the official graduation and appointment of FTO Class 25-01! 🚑

The FTO (or Field Training Officer) is a dedicated, experienced EMS professional who is responsible for orienting, training, and evaluating personnel within the service. They act as mentors, while assisting with protocol compliance, operational safety, generalized training and providing feedback to other members of management.

Spearheaded by Training Lieutenant/QA Coordinator Marlana Crews and FTO Joshua Roberts, these individuals participated in a 16 hour Academic Program, focusing on adult education with an emphasis on EMS education and department standards. They also completed 36 hours of hands-on instruction, simulating the onboarding of a new employee.
Throughout this process, these providers have also earned the ability to apply for their Georgia State EMS Instructor Licenses, allowing them to teach in other avenues across the state.

Please join us in congratulating these employees on this remarkable achievement!

AEMT FTO: Rick Brown
Paramedic FTO: Carli Cuendet
Paramedic FTO: Addy Esry

One year ago, pure tragedy struck our community.

Today, we remember and honor the lives lost. We mourn alongside the friends and family of those affected. We also focus our hearts on the love, support, and unity our community has shown.

09.04.24 will forever be a day burned into our memories. Today, and every day, we stand beside our fellow responders. We stand beside our community. Today, and every day, we are reminded that “Love Will Prevail”. And we believe it truly has. 🚑💙🚒💛🚓

Members of Barrow County EMS had the privilege of joining Barrow County Fire Department, Barrow County Sheriff's Office, and Barrow County School System in multi-department training this afternoon. 🚑🚒🚓

We are truly honored to have the opportunity to continuously train on these high-stress situations to better perfect our responses, especially with the upcoming anniversary of the event at Apalachee High School.

Congratulations Sheriff Smith! 🚓💙
There is no other sheriff more deserving of this outstanding honor. We are truly grateful to serve this community alongside you!

We are thrilled to announce some fantastic news: the Georgia Sheriff’s Association has selected Sheriff Jud Smith as the 2025 Sheriff of the Year! He will be formally honored at the GSA Summer Conference on August 6. Sheriff Smith's commitment to community safety and his leadership within the law enforcement community have made a significant impact in Georgia. Known for his dedication, character, and integrity, Sheriff Smith has worked tirelessly to enhance public safety and build trust with the citizens he serves.

It’s clear our perspective on Sheriff Smith may be influenced by our experiences, yet he consistently demonstrates remarkable leadership, day in and day out, year after year. His dedication to the Barrow County community is unmatched, and his ability to connect with people from all walks of life has fostered a sense of trust and respect. Sheriff Smith is not only committed to upholding the law but also ensuring the safety and well-being of every citizen and visitor of our county. His innovative approaches to law enforcement have led to plenty of successful initiatives aimed at improving community relations, reducing crime, and implementing effective crime prevention strategies.

Please join his wonderful family—Stephanie, Conyer, and Addison—along with his extended family at the Sheriff’s Office in congratulating Sheriff Smith as he receives this well-deserved award. It is a moment of pride not just for Sheriff Smith, but for everyone who has supported and believed in his vision. May this award serve as a testament to his hard work and as motivation for continued excellence in the future.

The dust has settled, the parties are over. There’s no more classes to attend, no homework to turn in. We are so proud of all our graduates, but we want to take a moment to specifically congratulate our graduates from Apalachee High School.

Faced with unprecedented challenges, this group of seniors found ways to cope, move forward, and above all else, succeed. We know the events of this year will not ever be forgotten, and many still struggle with understanding/accepting what occurred.
To those, we stand with you, and give these words of encouragement: Keep moving forward. Keep healing. It is okay to still not be okay. But stand tall, with your heads held high. Go out and do great things.

To the freshman, sophomore, and junior classes of 2025, we look forward to celebrating you at your graduations too!

Barrow County EMS has served with you, grieved with you, and healed with you. Barrow County EMS will always be . 💙💛
