We all feel alone sometimes. It's okay to remember that just because you are feeling that way right now does not mean you will feel this in an hour, on another day, or in a week.

Navigating your mental health and feeling alone can be super challenging and can create a sense of overwhelm. You don't have to embark upon that journey by yourself. Therapy is a wonderful tool that provides a safe space to be seen and heard. You may work with a therapist to address anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and events from your past. Help is available and hope is on the way.

Assertive training is a form of behavior therapy designed to help people stand up for themselves—to empower themselves, in more contemporary terms. An assertive person will protect his/her boundaries, without stepping on someone else's private space, and treat them with respect and compassion.

Does this sound like medicine for your soul?

Setting boundaries and learning how to assert not only your needs and wants but your core values, is a huge process for some of us - and one that needs intentional care and attention. We are here to support you on that journey.

Embrace your uniqueness.

Everyone experiences a range of emotions from the deepest lows to the highest highs. This is what being human is all about. Remember, you're not alone, and you're not an outsider.

Simply by existing, you are a valuable and cherished member of the human race.

It's truly something to be celebrated.

We love having an opportunity to educate our community a bit about the specifics in our industry. It helps all of us when we can speak the same language and advocate for our own health. Often we hear different titles in psychotherapy and we maybe aren't certain what each professional specializes in!! Let us offer some helpful information for your own advocacy and understanding. 😊

A psychiatrist is a Medical Doctor (an M.D. or D.O.) who specializes in psychiatry, the medical specialty devoted to the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of mental disorders.

A psychiatric nurse practitioner (PMHNP) is an advanced practice registered nurse, who specializes in psychiatry. They differ from Medical Doctors in that they complete a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), followed by an additional 2-5 years of training completing either a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

A psychotherapist can hold an array of other degrees, such as Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) and Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC).

The more you know, the better you can advocate for yourself and understand the limitations and capabilities of the mental health professionals you work with!

This is hard to hear sometimes. We are all so busy, so distracted by our never-ending to-do lists and expectations at work and at home that we sometimes forget to tune in to our own wants and needs.

This is why it's so much easier to focus on the pouring out of love towards another, versus the pouring inward of love into ourselves. But the old saying is true - we cannot love someone else until we truly learn to love ourselves, because loving ourselves means accepting and honoring all of the messiness, flaws, and errors we make every single day!

Did you know? ✨

"Breathing is the only vital function that is under direct voluntary control as well as reflexive control. As such, it is a behavior that is subject to the psychological principles of both instrumental (operant) and Pavlovian (respondent) conditioning."

When you feel the familiar sensation of spinning out of control, sit upright, close your eyes, and begin breathing meditation. We may not have control of our environment, the actions of those around us, or what will become of the future. We can however take a moment to consciously breathe with intention and practice slowing down our thoughts. Your mental health matters.

It is a universal human experience to wander and wonder.

Whether you are in a peak or valley of your mental health journey, you are not alone. Discovering your needs is an essential part of being human and often times we need to go deep within to seek answers and understanding. Remember to practice compassionate listening to yourself and to those around you. You may not have the answers, but giving yourself space to sit and listen deeply can help you navigate your journey.

Discovering your true hunger signals is key to combating eating problems, but many people struggle to differentiate true hunger from emotional cravings.

With the guidance of a psychologist, you can learn powerful mindfulness techniques that increase your self-awareness of hunger levels. Not only will you become more attuned to your body's needs, but you'll also find joy in the act of eating once again.

There are caring souls in this world who have dedicated their lives to walking alongside you when you are in a moment of need.

Embrace that support. Know truly that you are not a burden and your story matters to someone - to so many. 🌸

Good morning ✨

It's important to stay informed on strategies that can manage our mental health because we deserve to feel safe and cared for. Featured today is a wonderful psychotherapy tool that aims to help us gain true acceptance of our thoughts and feelings - a breath of fresh air indeed.

This practice, ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy), is a type of behavioral therapy utilizing the combination of skill sets - self-acceptance and mindfulness. When we have a difficult situation to face, this form of therapy helps us address the stressors rather than burrowing away and avoiding them.

Self-care’s not about learning practices to help us avoid challenges. It’s about building resilience & reserves so we can own the challenges we used to avoid.

Life is ever-evolving. One day you may be enjoying a day with family or friends, the next day you may very well encounter a difficult piece of information, a new reality, or a series of challenges.

That's okay. You are prepared.

How do you start your day?

To boost your mental health, focus on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables along with foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as salmon. Dark green leafy vegetables in particular are brain protective. Nuts, seeds, and legumes, such as beans and lentils, are also excellent brain foods.

Need inspiration? Try a giant glass of water and a leafy green smoothie for breakfast. Freezing blueberries, sliced bananas, and spinach in a Ziplock bag make mornings simple and clean-up easy. Pair with your choice of nut butter, nut milk, cinnamon, and a dash of maple syrup for a healthy morning treat.
