New Blog Post by Dr. Steven McCarus: Chronic Pelvic Pain in Women — Considering Endometriosis

Chronic pelvic pain affects millions of women — yet one of its most common drivers, endometriosis, remains underrecognized and frequently delayed in diagnosis.

In this latest blog, Dr. Steven McCarus explores the complex relationship between chronic pelvic pain and endometriosis — from clinical presentation and diagnostic challenges to multidisciplinary treatment strategies. The article highlights why symptom severity doesn’t always correlate with disease burden, the importance of listening to patients, and the critical role minimally invasive surgery can play when medical management falls short.

Dr. McCarus also examines evolving therapies — including GnRH agonists vs. antagonists — and how individualized care plans can improve long-term outcomes and quality of life.

Because recognizing endometriosis earlier means treating patients more effectively — and more compassionately.

70% of Hysterectomies Could Be Minimally Invasive — But Many Still Aren’t

Hysterectomy remains one of the most common surgeries performed in women’s healthcare — yet the approach used can significantly impact recovery, outcomes, and patient experience.

Research shows that the majority of hysterectomies are appropriate for minimally invasive techniques — including laparoscopic, robotic, or vaginal approaches. In fact, studies estimate that roughly two-thirds to 70% of hysterectomies can be performed using minimally invasive methods when training, technology, and access are available.

However, gaps remain. Many procedures are still performed through open abdominal surgery — often due to limitations in training, resources, or institutional adoption.

Why does this matter?

Minimally invasive hysterectomy is associated with:
• Smaller incisions
• Less blood loss
• Lower complication rates
• Shorter hospital stays
• Faster return to normal activity

At AIMIS, closing this education and access gap is a core part of our mission — supporting surgeons, practices, and Centers of Excellence through training, collaboration, and evidence-based learning.

Because how surgery is performed matters just as much as the surgery itself.

What Makes a Center of Excellence?

The term Center of Excellence is often used in healthcare — but what does it truly mean?

At its core, a Center of Excellence represents more than a facility. It reflects a commitment to delivering care at the highest level through shared standards, advanced training, and measurable outcomes.

AIMIS Centers of Excellence are recognized for:

Standards — Adhering to best practices in minimally invasive surgery and women’s healthcare.
Training — Investing in ongoing physician education, innovation, and skill advancement.
Outcomes — Focusing on patient safety, recovery, and surgical success.
Collaboration — Working within a network of peers dedicated to continuous improvement.

It’s not just about technology — it’s about the people, the processes, and the commitment to excellence behind every patient experience.

Fibroids & Black Women: A Surgical Equity Conversation

During Black History Month, it’s critical to spotlight health conditions that disproportionately impact Black women — and uterine fibroids are one of the most significant.

Research shows that up to 80% of Black women will develop fibroids by age 50, compared to about 70% of white women. Even more concerning, Black women are more likely to experience:
• Earlier onset of fibroids
• More severe symptoms
• Larger and more numerous tumors
• Higher rates of hospitalization and surgery

They are also 2–3 times more likely to undergo hysterectomy for fibroid treatment — often at younger ages and with more invasive approaches.

This is where surgical equity matters.

Advances in minimally invasive and robotic techniques now offer women safer options — including myomectomy and hysterectomy procedures with smaller incisions, less blood loss, and faster recovery times. Expanding access to these techniques is key to improving outcomes and preserving quality of life.

At AIMIS, we are committed to supporting education, training, and collaboration that help close care gaps and ensure all women — regardless of background — have access to advanced surgical solutions.

Because equity in women’s health starts with awareness, education, and access.

❤️ Heart Health & Minimally Invasive Surgery: Why It Matters

During Heart Health Month, conversations often focus on prevention—but heart health also plays a critical role in surgical care and recovery.

Minimally invasive surgery can significantly reduce physical stress on the body compared to traditional open procedures. Smaller incisions, less blood loss, shorter anesthesia time, and faster mobilization all contribute to a safer experience—especially for patients with underlying cardiovascular risks.

For many women undergoing gynecologic or pelvic surgery, minimally invasive approaches can mean:
• Reduced strain on the heart during surgery
• Lower complication risk
• Faster recovery and return to normal activity
• Shorter hospital stays

At AIMIS, we are committed to advancing education and training that supports safer surgical approaches and better outcomes for women everywhere.

Because protecting women’s health also means protecting their hearts. ❤️

02/13/2026

One of the most important trends in robotic surgery for 2026 isn’t just growth—it’s specialization.

Robotic platforms are rapidly expanding beyond traditional use cases into highly specialized applications, from complex gynecologic procedures to cardiac, vascular, reconstructive, and microsurgery. These systems are enabling levels of precision that were once limited to a small group of highly trained specialists—while also shortening learning curves and expanding access to advanced care.

But as technology becomes more specialized, education must become more intentional.

That’s where MedTalk Mastery comes in.

MedTalk Mastery was designed to support clinicians navigating exactly this kind of change—providing focused, peer-driven education that goes beyond product training and into real-world application, decision-making, and mastery. As robotics and minimally invasive techniques evolve, MTM creates space for meaningful discussion, shared experience, and practical learning that helps surgeons apply innovation responsibly and effectively.

Technology may lower barriers—but mastery still requires education, context, and collaboration.

At AIMIS, we believe the future of surgery isn’t just about what tools are available—it’s about how well clinicians are prepared to use them.

Why Community Matters More Than Ever in Medicine

Healthcare doesn’t move forward in isolation. Real progress happens when physicians, practices, and institutions come together to share knowledge, set standards, and learn from one another.

The AIMIS community is built on that belief. Our network connects individual physicians, Practices of Excellence, and Centers of Excellence who are united by a commitment to advancing minimally invasive surgery and elevating women’s healthcare. Through collaboration, education, and shared expectations of quality, AIMIS creates a space where excellence is not just recognized — it’s continuously developed.

When care teams learn together, outcomes improve.
When standards are shared, trust grows.
And when a community is aligned, patients benefit.

That’s the power of the AIMIS network — and why community matters now more than ever.

5 Robotic Surgery Trends to Watch in 2026

Robotic surgery is entering a new era. As more systems gain FDA clearance and competition expands beyond a single market leader, robotic-assisted minimally invasive surgery is accelerating across specialties—and changing how care is delivered.

Key trends shaping 2026 include:
• More competition and innovation as new robotic platforms enter the market
• Expansion beyond traditional hospitals into ambulatory surgery centers
• Growth in gynecology, general surgery, and cardiac surgery
• Smaller, more modular systems designed for flexibility and access
• Specialized robotic applications enabling greater precision and faster learning curves

This shift is expected to further reduce complications, shorten recovery times, and expand access to minimally invasive care for more patients.

At AIMIS, we closely follow these developments because technology alone doesn’t transform care—education, training, and shared standards do. As robotics continues to evolve, supporting surgeons with evidence-based learning and collaborative education becomes more important than ever.

The future of surgery is minimally invasive, increasingly robotic, and rapidly advancing—and AIMIS is committed to helping the medical community navigate what’s next.
