I've partnered with the New Mexico Health Care Authority to talk about some federal changes that are happening to SNAP in New Mexico.
As a Navajo dietitian, I talk a lot about food, culture, and keeping our families nourished. Programs like SNAP help our families put food on the table, so it’s important to know what’s changing.
With these federal updates, some adults ages 18 to 64 may need to report about 80 hours of work or volunteer time each month when they renew their benefits.
If you’re an enrolled member of a federally recognized tribe, there may be an important exception, but you still want to make sure your application shows your tribal membership.
You’ll want to make sure your contact information is up to date, watch for letters about your renewal, and always ask questions is you’re unsure.
