When a partner initiate a difficult conversation, it’s helpful for said partner to be mindful of expressing the emotions they are experiencing around the hurt. The initiating partners should avoid language that focuses on blame. The partner who is on the listening side should focus on tolerating the uncomfortable feeling(s) that is often connected to the need to defend oneself.
