With confirmed cases of measles in North Carolina, now is the time to educate yourself on measles and the MMR vaccine. The best way to prevent measles is vaccination.

NCDHHS recommends that anyone age 1 year and older who is not vaccinated get the measles vaccine. Vaccination helps protect you — and the people around you.

With confirmed cases of measles in North Carolina, now is the time to educate yourself on measles and the MMR vaccine to protect yourself and your family.

Measles is a very contagious disease, but it can be prevented with a vaccine. It spreads through the air and by close contact with someone who is sick. The virus can stay in the air for up to two hours after a person leaves the area.

After a historic snowfall in eastern North Carolina, we’d like to share a few safety reminders for the coming days. Despite the weather, ECU Health hospitals and emergency departments remain open and here to serve you, thanks to our incredible team members.

Cold weather is expected to continue and it’s important to bundle up while outdoors – wear layers, hat and gloves, and boots with good traction. While shoveling, stay hydrated, move small amounts of snow at a time and take breaks. Avoid travel when possible and check local listings for road closures. If you must drive, go slowly and be aware of black ice, even on cleared roads.
