William Newton Hospital

William Newton Hospital WNH is classified as a Critical Access, not-for-profit community hospital serving south-central Kans Our emergency department is staffed with physicians 24/7.

William Newton Hospital (WNH) is a 25-bed Critical Access Hospital located in Winfield, KS with a proud heritage of excellence in patient care. Although WNH provides the latest in technology to assist physicians in diagnosis and treatment, our strength also lies in the personalized, compassionate patient care not often found in a large medical center. We strive to provide big-city medicine, with small-town service. In addition to acute care, the hospital provides same-day and orthopedic surgery, intensive care, labor and delivery, and skilled swing beds. WNH has on-site respiratory therapy services and a clinical laboratory. Outpatient services include cardiac rehabilitation, wound care, diagnostic imaging, infusion therapy, laboratory, rehabilitation services, and many other diagnostic and therapeutic services. The hospital provides primary care through six rural health clinics in Cedar Vale, Dexter, Moline, Sedan, and Winfield, and an occupational health program to assist local business and industry. Cancer treatment and renal dialysis are also located on campus. Specialty clinics include cardiology, orthopedics, podiatry, interventional radiology, oncology, nephrology, neurosurgery, ENT, pediatrics, pulmonology, and urology. The non-profit community general hospital is locally managed and financially self-sufficient, relying entirely on patient revenue and philanthropic support. It does not receive tax dollars or outside health system assistance. The hospital is governed by a five-member Board of Trustees appointed by the Winfield City Commission. Meeting the healthcare needs of the citizens in the surrounding area has always been, and always will be, our number one priority.

We are thrilled to announce that WNH has officially signed a design agreement with Alloy Architecture for our new Emergency Department! This milestone in the Second Century Campaign marks a major leap forward for a project funded entirely by the philanthropic support of our community through the William Newton Healthcare Foundation.

Representatives from William Newton Hospital, William Newton Healthcare Foundation, and Alloy Architecture gathered recently at the hospital entrance to mark a significant milestone in the Second Century Campaign. The hospital has officially entered into an agreement with the firm for the design of the new emergency department, signaling a major step forward for an initiative funded entirely by the philanthropic support secured through the Foundationโ€™s capital campaign.

As of late January, the community has successfully raised $7.3 million toward the $8 million total goal required for the emergency department expansion and renovation. This project is essential to modernize a facility that was last significantly renovated in the late 90s. The planned enhancements aim to address critical needs such as safety, privacy, efficiency, and accessibility to better serve the growing number of patients in the region.

"We've got our hard hats ready!" said Ben Walter, Managing Principal at Alloy Architecture, noting the team's readiness to move forward with the vital improvements.

William Newton Healthcare Foundation, established in 2007, continues to champion the philanthropic support needed to advance the hospital's mission and enhance the quality of life for local residents.

"The fundraising for the emergency department started in 2019, so we are excited for donors to see this progress," said William Newton Healthcare Foundation Executive Director Annika Morris. "We are so close to our goal.โ€

This beautiful spring weather brought our crew out in full force this afternoon. โ˜€๏ธ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ We heard from WNH cardiologist Dr. Ryan Beard and got an exclusive sneak peek at the Winfield Public Library's newly-renovated back patio! Today's walk took us around Baden Square, down to the hospital campus (with a quick wave at Dr. Beard's office), and back to the library.

Dr. Beard shared vital information about managing high (and low) blood pressure, highlighting the importance of regular exercise, maintaining a healthy weight, watching your diet, and getting enough sleep. To supplement office visits and ease "white coat syndrome," he recommends regular at-home monitoring, which encourages the proactive tracking that can help prevent cardiovascular incidents.

The Winfield Public Library โ€ข Winfield, KS supports these efforts via their "Libraries with Heart" initiative, offering take-home blood pressure kits and on-site kiosks for quick readings while you're out and about. As part of the library's sponsorship of today's walk, Ruth and Tabitha welcomed walkers to the back patio area, provided a light, refreshing snack, and helped us draw this month's lucky winner of $20 in Chamber Checks, provided by the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce. Mark your calendars, the library is having a grand opening for the new back patio space on April 24!

We're back at the Winfield Chamber office next month - join us on May 7 at 4pm for a health talk by Dr. Bryan Dennett, sponsored by Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.

William Newton Hospital has a proud heritage of excellence in patient care beginning in 1927. Although WNH provides the latest in technology to assist the physician in diagnosis and treatment, our strength also lies in the personalized, compassionate patient care that is often not found in a large medical center. WNH is classified as a Critical Access, not-for-profit community general hospital licensed for 25 acute care and swing beds. In addition to acute care, the hospital provides same-day surgery, skilled swing beds, home healthcare, audiology, cardiac rehabilitation, wound care, rheumotology and many other diagnostic and therapeutic services. An infusion therapy program scheduled for 2014. The hospital operates five rural health clinics in Cowley, Elk and Chautauqua counties and an occupational health program to assist local business and industry. WNH has also developed cooperative arrangements with other providers for cancer treatment and renal dialysis.
