Happy Lunar New Year and welcome to the Year of the Horse!

Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the new year based on the lunar calendar and is celebrated across many Asian cultures as a time of renewal, family, and good fortune. One meaningful tradition is the giving of red envelopes, which symbolize luck, prosperity, and well wishes for the year ahead.

Our student group, ADAPT (Advocating Diversity and Acceptance in Physical Therapy), brought this tradition to life by decorating the student lounge and sharing red envelopes within our community.

We’re grateful for students who help foster inclusion and bring meaningful traditions to campus. Wishing everyone a year of health, happiness, and prosperity!

This Black History Month, our Doctor of Physical Therapy students in ADAPT (Advocating Diversity and Acceptance in Physical Therapy) created a series of spotlights honoring pioneers, leaders, and advocates who helped shape our profession.

We are proud of our students for recognizing the importance of representation, and helping carry forward a profession grounded in service, equity, and inclusion.

This past Saturday our students volunteered with Project 658, providing pro bono physical therapy services to members of the Charlotte refugee and immigrant community. This experience allowed them to apply their clinical skills while improving access to care for those who need it most.

Moments like this reflect what it truly means to be a physical therapist—using knowledge, compassion, and service to make a difference beyond the classroom.

We’re proud of our students for representing our profession and our program so well.

Last week, our second-year DPT students partnered with nursing students for an interprofessional acute care lab focused on what truly matters in clinical practice: teamwork and communication.

Together, students collaborated to complete an acute care patient evaluation, learning firsthand how different professions contribute unique perspectives to patient care. The goal of the lab was to deepen understanding of roles and responsibilities while strengthening interprofessional communication in a realistic clinical environment.

Experiences like this prepare our students to enter healthcare settings ready to collaborate, communicate effectively, and deliver patient-centered care—because the best outcomes happen when healthcare teams work together.

Checking in on our second-year students during their busy Semester 4 👀

From practicing transfers in lab to learning more about bracing and orthoses through our great partnership with Hanger Clinic: Prosthetics & Orthotics, these students are putting in the work.

Semester 4 is notoriously challenging, but it’s clear they’re meeting it with grit, teamwork, and a whole lot of smiles.
