Memory Care Ministry (MCM) recently hosted a special breakfast to thank our donors and the three churches whose members piloted the program this past year.

MCM is a faith-based, 6-week program created to support caregivers of individuals with dementia by offering education, resources, and guidance for the physical, social, mental, and spiritual dimensions of caregiving.

Developed in partnership with Atrium Health, the Alzheimer’s Association, the Union County Council on Aging, and the Wingate University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, MCM reflects the power of collaboration.

Wingate University continues to make a meaningful impact in our community. In 2026, its programs in Physical Therapy, Social Work, and Clinical Mental Health Counseling will further expand that impact through new respite care services, virtual and in-person support groups, and access to the Counseling Clinic.

The physical therapy department would like to give a special shout out to our very own Dr. Debbie Prouty, MPT, EdD, GCS, pictured on the far left below. Dr. Prouty is an associate professor at Wingate University's Doctor of Physical Therapy program and was a key member of the team that developed this program and is leading the creation of the upcoming respite care initiative.

Thank you, Dr. Prouty and all the collaborators, for bringing care and compassion to such a worthy cause.

🎉 Congratulations to Dr. Tyler Shultz! 🎉

Please join us in congratulating Dr. Tyler Shultz, who has been elected President of APTA North Carolina!

This is an extraordinary professional honor and a testament to Dr. Shultz’s leadership, vision, and service to the physical therapy profession. Being elected as President of APTA NC means he will:

- Represent more than 15,000 PTs, PTAs, and students across the state.
- Advocate for the profession at the state and national levels.
- Guide strategic initiatives that shape practice, education, and patient care.
- Support legislative efforts that expand access and protect the integrity of the profession.
- Champion the growth and future of physical therapy in North Carolina.

Dr. Shultz brings a passion for education, clinical excellence, and professional advocacy—qualities that make this achievement both well-deserved and meaningful.

We are incredibly proud to have him as part of the Wingate University DPT faculty, and we look forward to the positive impact he will continue to make on our program, our profession, and our state.

Congratulations, Dr. Shultz!
