MOMS just received this information from our sisters to the North in WI. Please take note…

RECALL ALERT: 4moms Recalls More than 2 Million MamaRoo and RockaRoo Infant Swings and Rockers Due to Entanglement and Strangulation Hazards; One Death Reported. When the swing or rocker is not in use, their restraint straps can dangle below the seat and non-occupant crawling infants can become entangled in the straps, posing a strangulation hazard. Consumers with infants who can crawl should immediately stop using the recalled swings and rockers, place them in an area where crawling infants cannot access and contact 4moms immediately to register for a free strap fastener that will prevent the straps from extending under the swing when not in use. Thanks to the legend who is Linda J Smith for helping me get this meme into sensible words!
ETA: It's still super normal and expected for babies to poo at least several times a week once casein increases. Some babies will still go several times a day, a few will go one a week. We just don't worry so much after 6 weeks of age, and shift more of our focus onto wet nappies, weight gain, and general baby mood / behaviour.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week - Day 6
Everyone m’s breastfeeding journey is different because everyone is an individual, as is their baby! Shout out to everyone who ever breastfed!!

Repost from Professor Amy Brown - Breastfeeding Uncovered

It's World Breastfeeding Week again. This week was designed to protect and support breastfeeding. To highlight why we need to invest in mothers, families, babies and the future. Yet for many, this week sends a chill straight through their core. It makes them want to shout and throw things because breastfeeding certainly isn’t something to celebrate for them.

For far too many women, any mention of breastfeeding reminds them of pain, anxiety and a lack of support. It reminds them of their determination to do what had been promised to them as simple, enjoyable and the right way to feed their baby. Determination which slowly turned to desperation when it didn’t work for them.

It reminds mothers of the heartbreak they felt as they stopped breastfeeding before they were anywhere near ready – it wasn’t just about the promised health benefits but the feeling that their body wasn’t doing what it was meant to do, and the fact they just really wanted to do it.

But all this pain is actually the reason we continue. This week is not about telling everyone they should breastfeed... but more about insisting that those with power step up and actually do something about investing in making a better future for the next generation of women.

At the moment, rather than protecting breastfeeding, the government doesn’t invest properly in the services, support and expertise that would actually enable mothers to breastfeed – despite reports finding it could actually save the NHS money.

Instead, cuts to services take away essential volunteer groups and funding of breastfeeding specialists. What should be an easily fixable issue can turn turned into months of physical pain - and often a lifetime of continued emotional pain.

The simple truth is that we set women up to fail. Most breastfeeding problems are created by a society that is not breastfeeding friendly: the actions of others are responsible for poor breastfeeding rates and the trauma of mothers.

This week is about recognising that hurt and calling for change. I really wish we didn't have to have it. I certainly wish that not so many women and families were hurt by it.

Happy World Breastfeeding Week-Day 5
When nursing a baby the hormones naturally released make you sleepy…

These aren't modern crazes we've taken up.

They aren't terrible habits we've gotten ourselves into, that need to be stopped asap before they ruin our babies.

They are ancient parenting practices, and they are the blueprint on your newborn baby's brain and what they expect from you as soon as they are born.

This is why the work that I do with families antenatally, and with newborns up to 6 months is purely about setting expectations for normal newborn sleep, feeding and creating secure bonds, and looking after yourself as well.

Sometimes just knowing what's normal is enough and you can carry on following that ancient intuition that was always within you 🤍

World Breastfeeding Weed-Day 4. This post is about colostrum…”first milk” “liquid gold” “first immunization” Really important stuff! If you’re uncertain or have questions give Paula from MOMS a call.

Colostrum is AMAZING.
Please don't worry about the fact that it's in small amounts, it's MEANT to be that way. It's perfect for your baby's tiny new body to process, packed with nutrition without overloading them with too much fluid to process while they adjust to the outside world.
I saw someone use the phrase 'nature puts your baby on a diet' and it made me absolutely cringe. It's such negative connotation to a normal process. Yes, babies often lose some weight in that first few days, but it's fluid loss, not fat loss. It's meant to happen and isn't a problem (unless it's excessive, but that's caused by other issues)

Trust in colostrum, it's absolutely incredible stuff.

*How your baby is positioned and latches, and how frequently they feed, have a big impact on the important process of early days feeding. Make sure to get support

The forecast says another heat wave next week… So should we offer a breastfed baby water? No, not unless they’re older & taking other foods. Infants get what they need by nursing & when they’re thirsty they may nurse more often. Questions? Give Paula from MOMS a call.

Now that I’ve gotten your attention, I just wanted to throw out a reminder that colostrum is the first milk for your baby when you breastfeed. At around 3-5 days postpartum, your milk will start the process of transitioning from colostrum to mature milk. From day 3-5 til day 10-14, your thick, yellow, sticky colostrum will thin out and move to the white color associated with breastmilk. After about 14 days postpartum, you’ll have what it considered “mature milk”, and your supply will begin to become established, which is a process that will take a few weeks.

Put the baby to the breast as much as possible. There’s a reason for the saying “when in doubt, whip it out”. Doing this will help your body to meet your baby’s demands. It’s also worth noting that there are several growth spurts in the first 3 months, and baby cluster feeding (wanting to be on the breast most of the day to eat, acting like they’re starving 30 minutes after they’ve eaten, etc) does not mean you’ve lost your supply (barring IGT or true low supply). Neither does your breasts feeling softer to the touch and not as engorged. This is very normal when your supply has regulated.

If you have any concerns about your baby and/or your breastfeeding journey, please seek out the nearest IBCLC and make an appointment. ✨
