Greg Moffat

It is with deep respect and remembrance that we honor the life of John Greg Moffat of Winnsboro, born on September 7, 1955 in Grapevine, Texas, who passed away on February 19th, leaving behind a legacy of courage, dedication, and family pride. He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Bette Moffat, and brothers Steve Moffat and Wayne Moffat. He is survived by wife, Melinda Moffat of Winnsboro, son-in- law and daughter, Justin and Ashley Evans of McKinney, Tx., son-in-law and daughter, Brandon and Lori Green of Winnsboro, son John Moffat of Crandall, Texas, son-in-law and stepdaughter Yusuf and Hannah Rizvi of Princeton, Texas, and stepson Dylan Abdanan of Boston, Massachusetts. Grandchildren Payton and Parker Green, Caden, Jax, Ashtin, and Emerson Evans, Grayson Moffat, and Aasya and Ibrahim Rizvi.

Greg was one of three siblings who answered the call to serve their community as members of the Dallas Fire Department-a remarkable testament to their family's shared commitment to protecting others. He devoted 39 years of service to the department, exemplifying bravery, integrity, and compassion throughout his career. Upon his retirement, he moved to Winnsboro, where he made his home and enjoyed a quieter pace of life with his wife Melinda.

In addition to his service with the fire department, Greg was a hardworking businessman. He owned and operated A&A Fire Extinguisher for more than 30 years, eventually partnering with his son, John, who now proudly carries on the business and its legacy of service.

In retirement, Greg embraced the simple joys that meant the most to him. He purchased a boat and spent countless happy hours on the water, especially enjoying fishing and tubing with his grandchildren-creating cherished memories that will live on in their hearts.

Greg was known for his warm, down-to-earth nature and his genuine care for others. He had a way of making everyone feel seen and valued, often greeting friends and neighbors with his familiar question, "How's your mom and them?"-a phrase that perfectly reflected his kindness and sense of humor to those around him.

To his grandchildren and many of their friends, he was simply known as "Pops." In fact, that name became so much a part of who he was that some knew him only by that title, a reflection of the love, comfort, and joy he brought into their lives.

Greg also had a deep love for sports, and some of his proudest and happiest moments were spent cheering on his grandchildren. Whether it was at a Lady Raider basketball game, football, soccer, or hockey, he rarely missed a chance to watch them play and support them from the sidelines.

Greg was known as a loving family member, a loyal friend, and a man of quiet strength. His bond with his siblings was especially meaningful, as together they carried on a tradition of service that made a lasting impact on their family. He will be remembered not only for his years in uniform but for the kindness, humility, and dedication he brought to every aspect of his life.

His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the example he set for future generations. Greg lived out this verse, 1 John 3:16: "By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers".

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Elaine Maddox Line of Duty Scholarship C/O Dallas Baptist University.

Carroll Bob Winn

Carroll Winn was born on June 24, 1944, in Tyler, Texas. He lived a full, creative, joy-filled life defined by family, artistry, laughter, and an unwavering willingness to show up for the people he loved.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bobbie and Howard Winn; his brother, Jerry Winn; his cousin, Ken Lillard; his son, Kelly Winn; and his beloved wife, Kay Winn.

Carroll attended Robert E. Lee High School before going on to the University of Texas at Austin, where he majored in business. During his time there, he witnessed one of the university's most infamous moments, the 1966 UT Tower shooting.

After college, he began his career in the restaurant business before transitioning into real estate, where he built a respected and successful career. He approached both business and life with creativity, intuition, and determination.

Carroll was an extraordinarily gifted artist. He drew and painted with remarkable talent, created intricate stained glass, and used his artistic eye to design and build several unique homes during his career. Forty years after graduation, his high school art teacher reached out to ask whether he had pursued art professionally, saying he had never taught a more talented student.

Above all else, he was a devoted father to Courtney and Kelly and a proud grandfather to Ella, Claire, Lennon, and Mike. Because of his ornery nature, his grandchildren affectionately called him "Boom Boom," a role he cherished. He was present, supportive, and always ready with advice or a helping hand. You could often find him doing arts and crafts, getting his fingernails painted by his granddaughters, or beaming with pride at a soccer game.

Carroll had a mischievous streak and a wry sense of humor that kept everyone on their toes. He had a talent for stirring up just enough "good trouble" to make life interesting. In his twenties, while living with roommates, he carefully orchestrated a prank that he knew would send one roommate into a rage. Anticipating the chase, he cleared a perfect path through the house for his escape. The plan worked. His roommate bolted after him exactly as expected. Everything was perfectly arranged... except someone had closed the sliding glass door.

He ran full speed straight into it.

He later said that in that split second, he knew if he stopped, he would be cut to pieces so he kept running. He went straight through the door without a single scratch. That story became more than one of his classic tales; it was a metaphor for how he lived. Obstacles might hinder or hurt some, but not him. Life's trials never sliced him up. He moved through them, laughed at himself, learned from them, and kept going.

This is what I admired most about my dad, his ability to look in the mirror, take responsibility for what he did not like, and take action to become the best version of himself. He did this without shame or pride, inviting those he loved to help keep him accountable.

Carroll Winn was truly one of a kind. He met life's challenges the same way he met that glass door...full speed, with courage, humor, and heart.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Joshua Caleb Crain

Joshua Caleb Crain, age 23, of Grand Saline, Texas, passed away after a courageous and valiant battle with a rare brain tumor. Joshua faced extraordinary health challenges beginning at the age of 14, meeting each one with resilience, faith, and a warrior's heart. He was a beloved patient at Children's Medical Center in Dallas, where he was known and cherished as a "favored fighter" among both staff and physicians.

Joshua was a 2022 graduate of Van High School, where he pursued his passions in photography and theatre. He pursued those interests at TJC and graduated with the class of 2025. Throughout his remission he worked at Brookshires of Mineola and was always said to have a cheerful spirit and a ready smile and a fresh joke.

He had a gift for making people feel seen and welcome, often turning strangers into friends through his humor, warmth, and genuine interest in others. His legacy is one of connection-leaving behind more friends than strangers. In a final act of profound generosity, Joshua chose to provide tissue samples to aid the finest doctors in Dallas, so that the next "rare tumor child" might have answers to the hardest questions a family can ask.

Joshua was the firstborn child of promise through adoption to Brad and Heather Crain. He is survived by his sister, Gracie Crain Ruiz of Virginia Beach, Virginia, and her husband, Damian; and his sister, Danielle Crain of McKinney, Texas. He is also deeply loved by a wide circle of family, friends, and caregivers whose lives were forever changed by knowing him.

Above all, Joshua leaves a legacy of unwavering faith in Jesus Christ, a servant's heart, and a joyful desire to share the Gospel with everyone he met. His humor lifted spirits, his faith inspired courage, and his life testified to hope beyond diagnosis.

Though his loss is deeply felt, we do not grieve as those who have no hope. We look forward to the day when we will see him again, hold him, and share sweet fellowship with him once more.

Monty Ray Cranfill

Monty Ray "Pookie Bear" Cranfill,

Feb. 17, 1965 - Feb. 3, 2026.

Monty was 60 years old and was born Feb. 17, 1965. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church. Monty grew up in Louisiana and graduated from Ovey Comeaux High School in 1983 in Lafayette, La.

To know Monty was to know a man that was a gentle giant. He was a son, brother, and friend all wrapped together. You hardly ever saw Monty angry, he always had a smile and a twinkle in his mischievous eyes! He was always sure to call friends and family on special occasions and holidays. He enjoyed seeing others smile and did what he could to make that happen.

Monty found his greatest peace in nature and being outdoors. When he had the opportunity, he would be out on a body of water trying to catch the biggest fish or in the woods hunting down the largest buck. Monty was fascinated with wolves and their elegance. He liked dream catchers and had them placed all over his room. He was a collector of knives and had enough to fill up a pick up truck bed! He grew up watching wrestling on TV and continued to his last day. Classic rock was his music of choice.

Though he was a man of few words, his actions spoke volumes about his devotion to those he loved. The last several years of Monty's life were very difficult for him. He taught us how to have faith and strength when life kept knocking him down or pushing him two steps back and that the greatest strength is often found in the quietest moments. He will be deeply missed, but his influence will be felt in every sunset we watch and every act of kindness we share.

Monty is survived by his mother, Betty Skinner, of Mineola, Tx., older brother Robert Cranfill of Spokane Valley, WA., sister Regina Cochran and her husband Leroy Cochran of Alvin, Tx.

Monty was preceded in death by his wife, Lillie Cranfill, and twin brother, Michael Cranfill.

Jerry Rodgers

Dr. Jerry Wharton "Doc" Rodgers, affectionately known as Pop J, passed away peacefully from natural causes on February 3, 2026, at the age of 82. Jerry was born on April 24, 1943, in Corpus Christi, Texas, to George and Winona Rodgers. After graduating as valedictorian from Roy Miller High School in Corpus Christi, he attended the University of Texas at Austin before earning his medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas.

Jerry served his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Medical Corps during the Vietnam era, where he practiced medicine in a bunker, caring for wounded soldiers as well as civilians and children. It was work that required courage, steadiness, and compassion-qualities that defined him throughout his life.

For more than 50 years, Jerry practiced family medicine, a calling he chose intentionally because it allowed him to care for entire families and walk alongside people through every stage of life. Medicine was both his profession and his passion, sustained by a lifelong devotion to learning, teaching, and serving his patients and community.

Jerry was a long-time member of Lake Fork Baptist Church, where his faith was an important and steady part of his life. Jerry never met a stranger, and children were instinctively drawn to him. Regularly, he could be found leading a sing-along, creating and directing talent shows, enjoying his favorite tech and lake toys, teaching swimming, coaching youth soccer, and beating everyone who challenged him in ping pong. He worked hard, lived fully, and had a rare ability to make people feel better simply through his presence.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Marcy Rodgers; his children Ryan Rodgers (wife Tish) and Raegan Saylor; his stepdaughters Mendi Garrett and Melani Windham (husband Joey); and his grandchildren Kayden Rodgers (fiancé Maguire Lind) and Zach Rodgers, Avery and Anthony Arrington, Hailey, Madelyn, and Parker Saylor, Collin Garrett (wife Jessica), Colten Garrett (wife Aleigh), Devin Windham (fiancé Kevin Pollinzi), Braeden Windham (wife Hannah), and Eric Windham.

He is further survived by his great-grandchildren Leah Valdez, Jett and Lauren Renger, Minnie and Marlie Garrett, Samuel Garrett, and soon-to-be Tobias Garrett, as well as the extended family of his late wife, Linda Rodgers.

A funeral service will be held Monday, February 9, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at Lake Fork Baptist Church in Alba, Texas.

Flowers may be sent to Beaty Funeral Home, 816 W. Broadway, Winnsboro, TX 75494.
