Have you ever heard that core exercises can help with back pain? Wonder why?

Your body constantly seeks balance, and when its unbalanced, pain often follows. One common issue is called Lower Cross Syndrome, a condition where weak abdominal muscles and glutes pair with tight hip flexors and lower back muscles. This imbalance is especially common for those who spend most of the day sitting—sound familiar?

At EPC, we specialize in chiropractic care and Active Release Technique (ART) to relieve muscle tightness, combined with targeted exercises to strengthen the weakened areas. Our goal is to help you move better and feel better!

While Lower Cross Syndrome is a frequent cause of back pain, it’s not the only one. That’s why we take the time to assess your condition and create a personalized care plan just for you.

✨What is Happening During an Adjustment?
When a chiropractor evaluates and performs adjustments, we’re identifying restrictions in the joints or areas that aren’t moving as efficiently as they should. When a joint is restricted, the surrounding muscles compensate for the lack of movement as they are attached to the bones in the joint, leading to imbalances and potential discomfort.
At Elite Performance Chiropractic, we go beyond just identifying joint restrictions, we also assess which muscles are compensating. This is where Active Release Technique (ART) comes into play. By addressing both joint restrictions (adjustments) and muscle imbalances (ART protocols), we help you recover faster and experience longer-lasting relief.

✨What’s That Popping Sound?
The popping noise during an adjustment is simply gas being released from the joint. While the sound can be satisfying, it’s not required for an adjustment to be effective. There are multiple different techniques used by chiropractors and not all of them create the “crack”

✨How Is That Different From Cracking My Own Back?
Many people “pop” their own backs, but chiropractors undergo years of specialized training to identify specific restrictions and apply the safest, most effective techniques to release them. While occasional, natural popping is normal, forcing movement can be risky and may lead to injury.

Meet the Doctor!

Dr. Lauren Maltzahn was born and raised in Winston-Salem, NC, where she spent most of her time playing volleyball. After graduating from Mt. Tabor High School (Go Spartans!), she headed off to UNC Charlotte. There, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science with a minor in Public Health. During her college years, she struggled with back pain, and that’s when she found and fell in love with chiropractic care. Following Charlotte, Dr. Lauren packed her bags and headed to Port Orange, FL, to pursue her Doctorate of Chiropractic at Palmer College-Florida. That’s where she learned multiple techniques like diversified, flexion distraction, activator, and soft tissue methods. She is also certified in full body Active Release Technique (ART) - level 1. When she’s not busy adjusting, you’ll find Dr. Lauren soaking up nature and hitting the volleyball courts.

Update: surgery went well. 3 rotator cuff muscles were fixed. My bicep tendon was moved and 3 anchors had to be used to re-attatch it. (A first time ever for my surgeon). My posterior labrum was sewn back together. My collarbone was trimmed to allow more space. Now, it’s “hurry up and wait” for things to heal in order to start rehab. Thanks to everyone that reached out to check on me. The support is so appreciated!!! Onward and upward from here!!!
