It's Freedom Day! Representation in research participation is key in ensuring there is treatment options that work for everyone. Statistics provided by the CDC show that Black Americans are 2x more likely to develop diabetes, 3x more likely to die of asthma, and are 2x more likely to contract lung cancer compared Caucasians.
However, fewer than 10% of patients enrolled in clinical trials are minorities (source: https://www.nih.gov/). Black Americans, in particular, have been underrepresented in clinical trials, causing researchers to rethink medications used to treat prevalent and fatal diseases.
At Accellacare, we are committed to increasing the accuracy of our research data, ensuring Black Americans are accurately represented in all of our clinical trials. Bridging this gap, will allow us to develop safer and more effective medication, as well as provide better, and more accessible care, to minority populations.
