Hey, if you are local, this is a great opportunity to create more community around Unpacking Weight Stigma! This is FREE and open to the public.
Oh, and if you haven't read Sonya Renee Taylor's The Body is Not An Apology, that's okay. We will be discussing it for our May and June Meetings.
I hope to see you there!!

“[HAES] came from folks that were really passionate about recognizing that diets don’t work and that fat people can engage in health-promoting behaviors, which research shows is more likely to have a healthier outcome than focusing on weight loss. As a HAES provider, it means that I try to work with folks to focus on ways that they can feel better in their body and improve their relationship with food, without focusing on weight loss.”

"Fat" is not a bad word. But weight stigma is a clear public health problem. It’s time we talk about fatness and anti-fat bias.

We go about our days within a Body Hierarchy, with or without awareness. The system of judging and comparing the worthiness of bodies is upheld by Diet Culture and is rooted in racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, ageism, and patriarchy.

The limiting believes born out of this Body Hierarchy fracture us. We see ourselves as the “owner” of our bodies, as if our bodies are a problem to be fixed, to be contained and controlled, frozen, showing no change over time. We believe that we are “less than”, “not enough”, and deficient.

As we wake up to to this “story”, we become aware that this illusion leaves us feeling perpetually discontent with our bodies.

Then what?

This workshop is dedicated to-
1. Healing the fracture, disconnection, and discontent created by diet culture.
2. Cultivating a partnership with your body rooted in respect and trust.

THROUGH GENTLE, ACCESSIBLE YOGA, DISCUSSION, JOURNALING, GUIDED MEDITATIONS, AND AN EMBODIED/MINDFUL MEAL. YOU WILL:
• Shift away from objectifying your body
• Connect and attune with your body
• Apply Embodied/Intuitive Eating Principles
• Relate to Your Body as Your Partner
• Cultivate Self-Compassion as a skill and practice
• Experience Embodied/Mindful Eating

This workshop is inspired by Sonja Renee Taylor’s The Body is not an Apology.

You will have the option of joining us in person at or virtually via zoom. (If in person-spaces will be limited for social distancing. Masks will be required)

We will be eating lunch as part of our practice. If you would like privacy, you may turn off your screen. If you are with us in person, we can create privacy at 18 Springs

Eating disorders have surged in the Bay Area during the coronavirus pandemic. Here’s why, and how to seek help.

My heartfelt holiday wish for you:

✨May you think of yourself with compassion,

❤️May you see yourself with kindness,

🎁 May you speak to yourself with love,

⚡️May you know that you are enough just as you are,

And more than ever

✌🏻May you remember that diet culture and the “wellness” industry (even when it shows up in the medical industrial complex) is rooted in capitalism, fat phobia and racism!

Don’t fall for it and stay your course toward food freedom, body respect and your embodied recovery!

We are with you❤️

Do you dread, or avoid, attending to your own healthcare because you feel demoralized by how the conversation returns again and again to your weight? Do you trust your provider but have a hard time navigating the office staff and the way checking your weight feels mandatory? Do you have concerns about your health but do not want to be sent to another “weight management/lifestyle” clinic? Do you feel like you are the only one facing these worries and feelings?

We hear your stories and frustrations. We also know there are solutions and ways to navigate your healthcare experiences so that you feel a greater sense of agency and even confidence.

I am squealing with excitement about announcing this new offering with ! Shanon has both lived experience in a fat body and an abundance of skills to share with you. She has a fierce spirit for this work and I think you will feel the support she offers to those who participate in this group.

This is a 6-week group that will be meeting virtually on Tuesdays 12-1 pm EST beginning 1/5/21. The fee is $40/week. (We are in network with BCBS, therefore this group may be covered.)

Group size will be limited to encourage opportunities for involvement.

If you are interested in registering or have questions, please contact Shanon at Shanon@bimnutrition.com or me at Debra@bimnutrition.com.

Self-care isn't selfish, it's essential. But how can we learn to be kinder to ourselves, especially when facing difficult times?
