It's the simple things. As a physician, I am always asking my patients how they are doing. In fact, many times, it is one of the first questions I ask. I am keenly interested in how they are doing currently, as well as how they have been doing since our last visit. I am truly hyper focused on them. In one of my recent sessions, I was seeing a six yo boy, who had been diagnosed with ADHD. So, I started with - how are you doing today? He responded he was doing fine. He then looked at me with a great BIG smile and said, How are YOU today, Dr. Neil? Not exactly sure why, but it caught me completely off guard. It came from such a genuine and pleasant place. I smiled at him and responded that I was fabulous and excited about what 2026 had for us all and thanked him for asking. My heart was full! In this, we are reminded to check in with those who are always checking in on us. Just to make sure they are okay too! It's the simple things.
