I love this math approach! My clients love learning this way, and realize they can learn anything with clay

Dyscalculia affects 5-7% of students. Yet most educators have never heard of it.
These are the students who:

Understand complex problem-solving but can't do basic arithmetic
Excel at geometry but fail algebra
Can't memorize times tables despite years of practice
Experience genuine anxiety when faced with numbers

Traditional response: "They're just bad at math. Give them a calculator."
That's not a solution. That's abandonment.
Here's what teachers need to know:
Dyscalculia isn't about intelligence. It's about how the brain processes numerical concepts.
For visual-spatial thinkers, numbers and mathematical operations are abstract. They have no concrete form. When you say "multiplication," there's no mental image.
The Davis Math Mastery program teaches students to MODEL math concepts with clay.
Addition isn't "2 + 3 = 5" anymore. It's physically combining 2 objects with 3 objects and seeing 5 total.
Multiplication isn't a times table. It's creating groups and counting them.
When math has a physical form students can see and touch, it makes sense.
This is the approach Ron Davis (engineer with severe dyscalculia) developed when numbers didn't make sense to him.

One of the great joys of my job is hearing back from parents after their child finishes their program.

I got this email yesterday -

I am so excited to share the following with you: Last week T completed his first math test without any assistance from me! He is now doing some math in his head, not on paper; he had an ELA test today and did not complain or whine once! He is learning that when I suggest that he walk away from something and do a release that his day goes much better if he does it right away. He only has two more words to complete and he will have finished the 217 plus some! He is having fewer anger out bursts!!! He generally has all of his school work done by 11 AM.

Such a priviledge to help change a childs life.

It's been a wonderful summer. Really enjoyed working with a couple of older teens - both 14. One did a Math Mastery program, the other a Mastering Dyslexia program. Both have found school to be more fun. And one has said he's overjoyed with the changes he experienced.

I got a wonderful text from a parent of a boy I worked with last summer!

I wanted to share with you that we got through our end of grade testing for C. His scores in language arts were amazing! It usually takes us two full weeks to finish the test, and he finished in three days! He breezed through the language arts/reading sections! Almost made me cry!

The Davis Methods can make a tremendous difference in someones ability to learn!

I love doing Davis Mastery for Math programs! Math is full of concepts that can be mastered and make math make more sense. In addition, math has a language of it's own, and by mastering those words, understanding happens quickly.
