As we approach the end of the month of October, we’d like to raise awareness for Breast Cancer. Breast Cancer does not discriminate. It can impact those of different ages, races, and genders. Screen yourself regularly, consult with your doctor if you suspect anything is different about your body, and most of all - know that you are not alone.

It has been an exciting week in the WSSU Department of Physical Therapy! To cap it all off, we recently received notification that the WSSU-Novant Health PT Neurologic Clinical Residency Program was approved for reaccreditation for the next 10 years, through 2035!

The American Board of Physical Therapy Residency & Fellowship Education (ABPTRFE) has a mission to advance and promote the physical therapist learning continuum by setting standards for quality assurance and continuous improvement in residency and fellowship accreditation to elevate practice and improve the health of society.

WSSU is the first Historically Black College and University (HBCU) in the United States to offer a fully accredited Physical Therapy Residency Program! We are so proud to be recognized for offering a valuable and high-quality post-professional residency program for Physical Therapists in Neurologic Rehabilitation!

A special shout-out to the Program Director, Dr. Sara Migliarese, for her excellent leadership, passion, and commitment to enhancing the PT profession through the preparation of advanced clinicians in the field of Neurologic Physical Therapy!

The 2nd Annual Piedmont Area Falls-Free Expo was held on Wednesday, September 24th, 2025 at the Intergenerational Center for Arts & Wellness in Winston-Salem, NC. Students and Faculty from the WSSU Physical Therapy Department and the WSSU Occupational Therapy Department joined local partners to bring awareness to fall prevention through informational sessions, engaging activities, and free fall risk screenings. Despite it being just the 2nd year of hosting this Expo, this year's event was a huge success, with approximately 139 attendees and 38 vendors participating!

Special thanks to the APTA North Carolina Triad District for a $500 grant that covered fall prevention giveaways at the Expo!
