A Tribute To: John Cordeiro, Jr.

A Navy veteran, artist, and storyteller, John brought creativity and connection to everything he did—from designing video games and graphics to sharing songs, laughter, and friendship wherever he went. John had a gift for making everyone feel like family. Whether singing with his wife, cheering on his kids and grandkids, or striking up a conversation with a stranger, his warmth and joy were unforgettable. His love for life and the people around him continue to inspire all who knew him. 💙

Two global leaders in eyesight restoration are uniting.

Today, we’re proud to announce that Miracles In Sight and Advancing Sight Network will merge and begin operating as one organization on January 1, 2026. Together, we’ll build on more than 125 years of collective service to advance a shared mission: restoring sight and transforming lives.

Worldwide, more than 253 million people live with blindness or moderate to severe visual impairment – and about 90% of vision loss is preventable or treatable. By joining forces, we’ll expand capabilities across research, clinical trials, cellular therapeutics, international programs, and corneal transplantation. This will increase impact for donors, donor families, clinicians, and recipients.

As one organization, we’ll propel innovation, strengthen sustainability, and lean into collaboration. Because we know eye banks, clinicians, and research institutions can achieve more together.

The MIS team enjoyed a wonderful presentation and wet lab given by Lloyd Williams, MD, PhD, Director of Duke Global Ophthalmology at Duke Eye Center. Dr. Williams shared stories from his most recent mission trips, provided updates on all of the amazing work that Duke GO is doing, and shared his "why". A huge thank you to Dr. Williams, Mary Harris, and the staff at Duke GO for all that you do! ✨

The Duke Global Ophthalmology Program, led by Lloyd Williams, MD, PhD , offers urgently needed eye care to people throughout the world. Teams spend days or weeks in-country, providing screenings, medical and surgical care, and follow-up. Collaborations with partners during these missions often lead to global research opportunities and the ability to improve future patient care. Dr. Williams has changed hundreds of lives and trained several international ophthalmologists to take care of their local community! 👁️

Meet Yanira: Surgical Recovery Specialist !

Yanira joined MIS 4 years ago after graduating from Surgical Tech school. “I’ve had a great experience working at Miracles In Sight. Everyone is very helpful and caring. The most rewarding part is knowing I’m doing something unique that not many people would feel comfortable doing — but that can truly change lives for the better.”

Outside of MIS, Yanira works as a Surgical Technologist at a level one trauma center, volunteers with a girls BSA troop, and loves spending time outdoors, traveling, and playing with her three boxers alongside her husband, son, and friends. 🐾🌎

A Tribute To: John Delano

Today, we honor the life and legacy of John, a devoted son, athlete, volunteer fireman, and friend to so many. John’s heart for service was evident both on and off the field—whether managing and umpiring softball, organizing fundraisers for families in need, or giving his time to his community.

True to his generous spirit, John’s final gift was the gift of sight—both of his corneas were able to restore vision for two recipients.

We are deeply grateful to John and his family for choosing to share hope through donation. His impact will continue to shine through every life he touched. 💙
