A Reminder About Flu Season and Keeping Kids Safe
North Carolina has recently reported its first flu-related death in a child this season. While this news is incredibly difficult to hear, it serves as an important reminder that the flu can be serious for children of all ages.
Many parents think of the flu as a routine illness, but for some children it can lead to severe complications. Babies, young children, and kids with certain medical conditions are especially at risk — but even otherwise healthy children can become very sick.
The good news is that there are steps families can take to help protect their children. Getting the annual flu vaccine is the best way to reduce the risk of serious illness. Simple habits like frequent handwashing, covering coughs and sneezes, and keeping sick children home from school or activities also make a big difference.
Please call our office at (336)765-9000 if your child develops flu symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, or unusual tiredness. Early care can help your child recover more quickly and safely.
