This Volunteer Appreciation Week, we’re celebrating the people who make the mission of Shepherd’s Hope possible.

We’re honored to highlight two dedicated volunteers, both of whom represent the compassion, commitment, and heart that fuel this work every day. Their service helps make compassionate, accessible healthcare possible for thousands of uninsured neighbors in our community. We’re deeply grateful for the many volunteers who help carry this mission forward and for the supporters who make that service possible.

Students from Orlando College of Osteopathic Medicine are gaining real-world experience while making a meaningful impact, volunteering monthly with Shepherd’s Hope to serve uninsured and underinsured families.

For student Mariana Valdez, the experience is deeply personal. After losing her mother and questioning her path in medicine, volunteering at Shepherd’s Hope reignited her passion. Now, she’s come full circle, returning as a medical student to care for others alongside a team dedicated to compassion over cost.

Through this growing partnership, students are stepping beyond textbooks, shadowing physicians, assisting patients, and learning what it truly means to practice medicine.
