Women’s roller derby is an electrifying and fast-paced contact sport, where athletes skate, and battle it out on the track. Played primarily by women, it’s a thrilling combination of strategy, athleticism, and teamwork. Teams of five skaters—four blockers and one jammer—compete to score points by lapping members of the opposing team while navigating through a sea of blockers trying to stop them. Roller derby has a strong community-based, DIY spirit, with an emphasis on empowerment, inclusivity, and body positivity. Dr. Holseth is thrilled to have the opportunity to cover the Swan City Roller Derby games.

We love teaching! Having students and residents on our team helps to keep us up to date in evidenced based medicine. We loved having Alex De Roos, a pre-med student at USF who is a passionate advocate on sports concussions, retired ballerina, and current Miss Tampa, complete a sports medicine rotation with Dr. Michelle Henne and Dr. Saundra Holseth. We were proud to recommend her to doing more clinical shadowing at the USF Concussion clinic, now that she’s back to school.
