Some historians believe that Thanksgiving has its roots in Sukkot.
Much like Thanksgiving, Sukkot is a harvest celebration that takes place in the fall. With both holidays, families gather for meals consisting of special seasonal items.
While families look forward to dishes like green bean casserole and turkey stuffing at the Thanksgiving table, a sukkah (a fort built for Sukkot) will often have items like challah (a braided bread) and kreplach (a dumpling soup).

As Thanksgiving approaches, we find ourselves reflecting on hachnasat orchim, the Jewish value of hospitality.
In the Jewish faith, the importance of welcoming guests and strangers again and again cannot be overstated. At JFS Orlando, we proudly support members of our community with open arms.
