Spanking, or physical punishment, doesn’t teach understanding.
It teaches fear, compliance, and silence.

When a child is hurt, their brain isn’t learning right from wrong — it’s learning how to avoid pain, hide mistakes, and stay safe from the person they need most.

Discipline that relies on fear may stop behaviour in the moment, but it doesn’t build skills, insight, or emotional safety.
And it often leaves long-term imprints we don’t see until much later.

We can guide behaviour without harm.
We can set boundaries without breaking trust.
And we can teach children why — not just make them obey.

As a clinically trained Narcissistic Abuse Treatment Clinician, rarely do I see something SPOT ON than what is portrayed in this video clip! Trigger Warning! This is an EXCELLENT portrayal of gaslighting in an antagonistic/narcissistic abuse relationship. The length of the short film is only 20 minutes and SO worth the watch! So many subtleties that are often seen and missed in the beginning because most people give others the benefit of the doubt and dismiss what is occurring. If you can relate to any part of this clip, there is help! Beware though! Not all therapists are trained and educated in the coercive control/narcissistic abuse/antagonistic abuse specifically.

I had the honor and privilege of speaking at the community gathering at Central Florida Behavioral Hospital on 2/13/2026, to commemorate the life of Rebecca White, a mental health counselor whose life was tragically shortened. My heart breaks for her family, friends and anyone who knew her. Grief never ends, it only changes shape and form.
