We love Sunday drumming and it's not only a physical program, it also provides cognitive, social and emotional benifits. Mark loves singing, and combining this love of his with drumming, clearly is proof of these benifts. These benefits stem from the program's ability to utilize retained rhythmic abilities, providing a means for self-expression. Mark hears a familiar song, sings along as well as rhythmically plays the drum. Clearly the program's provided in the Garden neighborhood are deliberately planning for connections and purpose!

This morning in "Mom's Kitchen" we made Apple Cookies. Sliced apples with the choice of several spreadable toppings and sprinkles ...of course! Cooking, and food prep, in memory care provides deep sensory engagement, it can trigger happy memories, and boost self-esteem through familiar tasks. Clearly, by the look on Norvelle's face is proof of that. In addition it is also promoting socialization, improving nutrition, and maintaining cognitive skills like planning. Offering a sense of purpose and connection through this type of sensory is always a success, and frequently a regular part of our program. Offering residents who enjoy cooking and food prep, easily creates meaningful engagement without the pressure of complex tasks.

Setting our hearts on the Reason for The Season, with our Annual reading of the Story of Jesus's Birth was heart moving. As several members of the management team read from the book of Luke, we all focused on the words of that powerful, ancient story. An important reminder of God's love, the fulfillment of ancient prophecies, and the start of His plan of salvation for the world. As the story unfolded, verse by verse, words highlighting humility, hope and the availability of God's grace to everyone.

A sweet opportunity during the most wonderful time of the year is proof, that "It's Never Too Late". Now Bob can check his Bucket List wish off the list. Truly making this year so "Merry" for our friend Bob. Special thanks to Valerie Purnice, daughter of resident Beverly who is a music teacher. The students, and Bob's band members for the day!
