This is the underground system in the body. The subconscious mind pulling the strings. The subconscious' prime directive: KEEP THE MEAT SUIT SAFE.

This is the part that is constantly monitoring micro cues of the environment. The trigger could be a shift in tone or body language.

The subconscious kicks into overdrive... It remembers the initial sensitizing event... The one that caused the wound, whether emotional or physical.

Pulse, blood pressure, and cortisol all increase. The BODY REMEMBERS.

Awareness is the ability to understand what's ACTUALLY happening in the present moment.

Yes, your heart may be pounding out of your chest, but the danger is no longer here. You are safe.

HEALING occurs when you gain awareness AND you can bring reassurance to the body. Comfort the body as if you were comforting a child.

Because, just like a child, the body has a limited understanding of the world.

The conscious mind is the metaphorical "adult in the room" and can explain things in a way that's just right for you at this time in your life.

Stay soft. Stay strong. Heal.

Reiki is the most soothing thing I have ever experienced. It gives you the time and space to separate your energy from others.
What we need now more than anything is peace inside of our own bodies. 🥰

The body responds to what the mind believes...

When one is afraid, one's shoulders begin to rise and the mind races. It's a natural response to perceived danger.
And in this heightened state, all resources are directed towards staying alive, i.e. keeping the body safe.
The critical thinking mind knows there is no danger to life or limb. However, the subconscious mind (the feeling mind) only remembers the injury that followed the last time one was vulnerable.

When you become aware of this disconnect of the mind and the body, that's when the work begins.
To resolve the conflict between the mind and body, understand the root of the fear, why it's there, and start envisioning the opposite of that fear for the future.

Let your body respond to this weightlessness and feel agency returning. Start from this place of safety and then make the move.

If your trauma is around connection, even a healthy connection will trigger you.
When this happens, your critical thinking mind shuts down and your subconscious mind (designed to keep you safe) takes over.
Your body is remembering the original hurt or pain. This WILL be uncomfortable.
Tell your partner what's happening in your body. Together, you can understand that your body is afraid of abandonment and being misunderstood or hurt.
Give the younger version of you the love and compassion you needed last time.
Let your partner comfort you WHEN they are able to understand the situation.
Your body is made for this energy to move through you. Release the past hurt. Let your younger self know that circumstances are different now, circumstances are better.
When this is done, your conscious mind can come back online. You feel the discomfort move through you.
Now, you get to decide how to rewire the neural pathway from that trauma. I highly recommend celebrating this "small win" as we all truly know that the seemingly small things are the big things!
