đŸ„łHappy Birthday Element đŸ„ł

My first baby turns 7 today! On February 4, 2019 I opened the doors to Element Chiropractic & Wellness. A humble beginning, sharing a treatment room with my friends/colleagues—a massage therapist, a facial stretch therapist, and a physical therapy team is how it all started. It wasn’t always easy, but we made it work. All I had was a fold up table and my two hands at the start. I always take a look back this week at my first week of patients— I had four in total and I’m forever grateful for those who walked through my doors and trusted me with their care from day one. The past seven years have been a wild ride- lots of changes, growth, learning and evolution of my practice: time away for an unexpected broken wrist and surgery, making a tough decision to go out of network with insurance (best decision I’ve made so I can treat my patients with the time and attention they deserve), building an extensive network of practitioners to work with and expanding my knowledge into the women’s health space spanning from pre-conception, pregnancy and postpartum through menopause and beyond.

And now more evolution as I navigate what Element looks like in this new chapter of life as I dive into motherhood and my family is expanding, all while owning a business and taking care of others. I don’t have everything figured out (yet), but I’m working on coming up with a new work/life harmony.

When I opened Element back on that cold February day, I had no idea what all was in store for me and didn’t realize just how much I would learn and be impacted by the patients I have the privilege of serving every day. My patients have become friends and family, and in this season of life, I am beyond grateful to have so much love and support. So for all of you who have trusted me with your care and the care of your loved ones over these past seven years, I say “thank you”, though that will never be enough to express the gratitude I have for those of you who have built this dream with me. Cheers to seven years of Element— it’s been a blast getting to today and I’m excited to see what these next years have in store. Stay tuned!

đŸ’„Monday MindsetđŸ’„

This one hit me in the soul. Our greatest lessons don't seem to come from the easy and happy times. They tend to come from the lowest lows. When we find ourselves in the trenches of making mistakes and poor choices. These moments force us to respond with true character and grit. When you're in the throes, try to reframe a tough situation and think 'what is this going to teach me?' Use it as a learning opportunity and come back better than ever from it. Make it a great week! đŸ€ Dr. Sam

đŸ’„Monday MindsetđŸ’„

Just shy of two weeks ago, my world turned upside down in the most amazing and positive way. With an original due date of February 10th, my son, Luke Robert Rybar made an appearance 4 weeks early on January 13th. I had just had my baby shower on Saturday the 10th, I had patients scheduled up through February 6th thinking there was no way Baby Rybar would come early. I had already spent the first week of the new year sick with a wicked upper respiratory infection that forced me to cancel patients. I had so much left to do: supplements to re-order, patients to see, a referral list to send, in person conversations that needed to be had, a maternity plan to be shared, a return to work plan to be created (still not done) and honestly income to be made (because when you’re self employed and a one woman show there is no paid maternity leave, but there is flexibility- pros and cons to it all). And then all of that went out the window when I made it to work on the 13th in active labor and finally realized something was off while I was in the throes of taking care of my people.

In two short weeks I have been humbled and I have been taught that I am not in control (and never was, despite what I thought as a “control-freak”). And you know what? I am at peace with it. I realize that my plan is not “the plan” and it’s taken something as drastic as being thrusted into motherhood without having anything ready to get me here. So I’m here to share with you, that when things feel out of your control, it’s okay and they are. There are always “controllables” within the chaos— your attitude, how you treat others, how you show up, how you respond, what you learn. So focus on those and be okay with controlling only what you can amongst this beautiful and chaotic world.

So while so many things didn’t get done that were “supposed to” before Luke was born and the to-do lists are a mile long still (you don’t just get to stop being a business owner and making tough decisions and communicating with your people) I’m choosing to not lose sleep over that (I have a cute newborn for that) and I’m choosing to accept what is, to give myself the grace to get the things done in time and to be present and enjoy this time with my son that truly is once in a lifetime. And this is your reminder to give yourself some grace in whatever season you are in. Show up for yourself and your loved ones. Control the controllables. Make it a great week!

**Dr. Sam is Out of Office On Maternity Leave Until Further Notice đŸ‘¶đŸŒ**

As most of you know, Luke Robert Rybar made an early appearance by 4 weeks, last Tuesday 1/13. He is doing well and we are finally getting settled and organized at home.

I’ve reached out to all of you who were still on the schedule into February to cancel. I’m still working on what leave/return will look like— little guy really thew off mom’s timeline and plans so stay tuned. Likely will return in early May— keep an eye on social media and your email inbox for updates - I’m doing my best to get things all figured out and appreciate your patience.

And shoutout to my sister, for handling my OOO sticky note on the door— appreciate you! đŸ”„

Thanks for all your love and support on this new journey! Be in touch soon!

This one definitely made me think. We're all too eager this time of year to set big goals, adopt new habits and keep adding things into our day. But what if we stopped and took the time to 'quit' or to eliminate things from our days that have no added value? Now would be a good time to evaluate which habits have the most positive impact on your life and which ones are unfortunately dragging you down. Changes don't have to be big and drastic, elimination of one unhealthy habit can have a huge impact. Make it a great week!

Our brains are capable of so many amazing things. One thing many of us do is overthink and catastrophize. But what if we used that ability for good? What if we let ourselves dream/explore/believe in bigger and better? Don't you agree that would be a much better use of the super power to overthink? I certainly do. Make it a great week!

đŸ’„Monday MindsetđŸ’„

Today is the first Monday of a new month and a new year. What a time to start fresh. I know many of us hit the new year with lots of motivation and big goals. And that’s great. However, it’s not the only way. I encourage you to make small changes at the start of this year that you can be consistent with and that will lead to long term changes over time. How we set the foundation now in January will help pave the way for 12 *smoother* months and better habits all year long. So again, changes don’t have to be big and grandiose- little changes can add up and be just as impactful. This year let’s do it right from the beginning and stay consistent as the calendar pages turn. Make it a great week and a great 2026! đŸ€Dr. Sam

Hello 2026! Another year is here and gone. If you’re reading this post, then you’ve been gifted with a brand new year in which to start anew. I love New Year’s Day– I love looking back on the past year and reflecting on where I came from. And I love sitting down writing out a new set of goals for the coming year. Today truly is a blank page for us to start writing yet again. Goals don’t have to be big, but you have to start somewhere. I hope you make this your best year yet! đŸ€ Dr. Sam

I don’t know about you, but this is where I’m at this week. Living off leftovers and Christmas cookies trying to remember what day it is. I hope you give yourself some grace this week and make time for movement and prioritize nourishing your body. Keep after those goals, we still have a few days left to achieve them! Make it a great last week of 2025! đŸ€ Dr. Sam

I will be out of the office until January 2nd. Messages will be returned in the new year.

Please note that the January schedule is FULL and if you are trying to schedule or reschedule you will be added to the cancellation list. My goal is to work through the end of January before stepping out of the office before Baby Rybar arrives. I will be happy to refer you to another practitioner if you would like. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year! See you in 2026 đŸ”„

May time slow down this week as those of us who celebrate Christmas tie up loose ends and may we enjoy the company we keep. Reminder that we cannot buy time, but we can share it and this week is the best time to do just that. Make it a great week! đŸ€ Dr. Sam

Our Story

It is often said that chiropractic finds you, you do not find it. As I reflect on how life has played out over the last 5 years, I’ve found that to become true. My life as an avid runner is what led me to discover chiropractic in the first place. My biggest role model in my life is my mom, a bad a** runner who inspired me to follow in her footsteps (pun intended). After my own struggles with weight, I took to running and haven’t looked back. In 2010 I ran my first marathon with my mom by my side the entire time, earning myself a Boston Qualifier. Despite getting into Boston for 2011, I was injury plagued following the marathon. An IT band injury kept me sidelined until I could rehab enough to get back to running. In 2012 I was able to run my second full marathon and in 2013 my third. After my 2013 marathon, my IT band injury returned. I took some time away from running while I finished up my undergrad career at the University of Michigan. During this time I adopted various cross-training activities to maintain my fitness level and also spent a great deal of time in physical therapy and doing rehabilitation on my own. Nothing was quite getting me back to running pain free.

Upon graduation in May 2014 with a Movement Science degree, I was back to running some but continued to be plagued by injury. I moved home with my parents and was working as a secretary in the construction field while trying to figure out what my next steps were. Not being able to run as far or as fast as I wanted to was growing old. Finally, my dad suggested I go see his chiropractor. It was my last resort, as I’d tried just about everything to relieve the pain and get back to running like I knew I could. I remember calling to make an appointment and being told the doctor has a 6-week waiting list- the 22 year old version of myself was annoyed and couldn’t comprehend a 6-week wait (we Millenials are truly all about instant gratification and this situation was no exception). I remember getting a call from the office while at work one afternoon in August of 2014 asking me if I’d like to move my appointment up earlier as there had been a cancellation; I jumped at the opportunity and headed off to the chiropractor. I remember my first visit like it was yesterday.

I sat in the doctor’s office and she listened to my story, acknowledged my frustration with not being able to do what I loved. She took the time to examine and assess me, acknowledging how interconnected the body is and helped me understand how each of my symptoms related to each other and to the underlying dysfunction I was experiencing. After an explanation of what she had found and an explanation of how she could help, she began to treat. My initial treatment included what I now understand as dry needling, Active Release and an adjustment. I remember rolling over for a side-posture adjustment and looking up at her diploma that read “Doctor of Chiropractic.” In that moment, as the adjustment was delivered I decided to myself that I was going to be a chiropractor.

I went home after my first appointment initially feeling a little sore from the input, but the next day, I felt the most relief I had felt in months. I kept quiet about my decision to become a chiropractor. I spent time at work and at home researching what chiropractic was and where I could go to learn. After gathering the information, I told my parents and my fiancĂ© that I had decided I was going to quit my job, move far away (there are no chiropractic schools in Michigan) and go to chiropractic school. Mind you, I was not a very adventurous person and had never lived further than 20 miles from home, so this came as a shock to everyone. Everyone was very supportive of my decision, my dad went down to St. Louis with me in November 2014 to visit Logan College of Chiropractic. In the hotel the night following my tour, his only question was “when are you going to start?” He knew I was in my element being on that campus and was excited for me to start this next chapter.
