đ„łHappy Birthday Element đ„ł
My first baby turns 7 today! On February 4, 2019 I opened the doors to Element Chiropractic & Wellness. A humble beginning, sharing a treatment room with my friends/colleaguesâa massage therapist, a facial stretch therapist, and a physical therapy team is how it all started. It wasnât always easy, but we made it work. All I had was a fold up table and my two hands at the start. I always take a look back this week at my first week of patientsâ I had four in total and Iâm forever grateful for those who walked through my doors and trusted me with their care from day one. The past seven years have been a wild ride- lots of changes, growth, learning and evolution of my practice: time away for an unexpected broken wrist and surgery, making a tough decision to go out of network with insurance (best decision Iâve made so I can treat my patients with the time and attention they deserve), building an extensive network of practitioners to work with and expanding my knowledge into the womenâs health space spanning from pre-conception, pregnancy and postpartum through menopause and beyond.
And now more evolution as I navigate what Element looks like in this new chapter of life as I dive into motherhood and my family is expanding, all while owning a business and taking care of others. I donât have everything figured out (yet), but Iâm working on coming up with a new work/life harmony.
When I opened Element back on that cold February day, I had no idea what all was in store for me and didnât realize just how much I would learn and be impacted by the patients I have the privilege of serving every day. My patients have become friends and family, and in this season of life, I am beyond grateful to have so much love and support. So for all of you who have trusted me with your care and the care of your loved ones over these past seven years, I say âthank youâ, though that will never be enough to express the gratitude I have for those of you who have built this dream with me. Cheers to seven years of Elementâ itâs been a blast getting to today and Iâm excited to see what these next years have in store. Stay tuned!

This one hit me in the soul. Our greatest lessons don't seem to come from the easy and happy times. They tend to come from the lowest lows. When we find ourselves in the trenches of making mistakes and poor choices. These moments force us to respond with true character and grit. When you're in the throes, try to reframe a tough situation and think 'what is this going to teach me?' Use it as a learning opportunity and come back better than ever from it. Make it a great week! đ€ Dr. Sam

Just shy of two weeks ago, my world turned upside down in the most amazing and positive way. With an original due date of February 10th, my son, Luke Robert Rybar made an appearance 4 weeks early on January 13th. I had just had my baby shower on Saturday the 10th, I had patients scheduled up through February 6th thinking there was no way Baby Rybar would come early. I had already spent the first week of the new year sick with a wicked upper respiratory infection that forced me to cancel patients. I had so much left to do: supplements to re-order, patients to see, a referral list to send, in person conversations that needed to be had, a maternity plan to be shared, a return to work plan to be created (still not done) and honestly income to be made (because when youâre self employed and a one woman show there is no paid maternity leave, but there is flexibility- pros and cons to it all). And then all of that went out the window when I made it to work on the 13th in active labor and finally realized something was off while I was in the throes of taking care of my people.
In two short weeks I have been humbled and I have been taught that I am not in control (and never was, despite what I thought as a âcontrol-freakâ). And you know what? I am at peace with it. I realize that my plan is not âthe planâ and itâs taken something as drastic as being thrusted into motherhood without having anything ready to get me here. So Iâm here to share with you, that when things feel out of your control, itâs okay and they are. There are always âcontrollablesâ within the chaosâ your attitude, how you treat others, how you show up, how you respond, what you learn. So focus on those and be okay with controlling only what you can amongst this beautiful and chaotic world.
So while so many things didnât get done that were âsupposed toâ before Luke was born and the to-do lists are a mile long still (you donât just get to stop being a business owner and making tough decisions and communicating with your people) Iâm choosing to not lose sleep over that (I have a cute newborn for that) and Iâm choosing to accept what is, to give myself the grace to get the things done in time and to be present and enjoy this time with my son that truly is once in a lifetime. And this is your reminder to give yourself some grace in whatever season you are in. Show up for yourself and your loved ones. Control the controllables. Make it a great week!

Likely will return in early Mayâ keep an eye on social media and your email inbox for updates - Iâm doing my best to get things all figured out and appreciate your patience.

This one definitely made me think. We're all too eager this time of year to set big goals, adopt new habits and keep adding things into our day. But what if we stopped and took the time to 'quit' or to eliminate things from our days that have no added value? Now would be a good time to evaluate which habits have the most positive impact on your life and which ones are unfortunately dragging you down. Changes don't have to be big and drastic, elimination of one unhealthy habit can have a huge impact. Make it a great week!

Our brains are capable of so many amazing things. One thing many of us do is overthink and catastrophize. But what if we used that ability for good? What if we let ourselves dream/explore/believe in bigger and better? Don't you agree that would be a much better use of the super power to overthink? I certainly do. Make it a great week!

Today is the first Monday of a new month and a new year. What a time to start fresh. I know many of us hit the new year with lots of motivation and big goals. And thatâs great. However, itâs not the only way. I encourage you to make small changes at the start of this year that you can be consistent with and that will lead to long term changes over time. How we set the foundation now in January will help pave the way for 12 *smoother* months and better habits all year long. So again, changes donât have to be big and grandiose- little changes can add up and be just as impactful. This year letâs do it right from the beginning and stay consistent as the calendar pages turn. Make it a great week and a great 2026! đ€Dr. Sam
Hello 2026! Another year is here and gone. If youâre reading this post, then youâve been gifted with a brand new year in which to start anew. I love New Yearâs Dayâ I love looking back on the past year and reflecting on where I came from. And I love sitting down writing out a new set of goals for the coming year. Today truly is a blank page for us to start writing yet again. Goals donât have to be big, but you have to start somewhere. I hope you make this your best year yet! đ€ Dr. Sam

I donât know about you, but this is where Iâm at this week. Living off leftovers and Christmas cookies trying to remember what day it is. I hope you give yourself some grace this week and make time for movement and prioritize nourishing your body. Keep after those goals, we still have a few days left to achieve them! Make it a great last week of 2025! đ€ Dr. Sam

I will be out of the office until January 2nd. Messages will be returned in the new year.
Please note that the January schedule is FULL and if you are trying to schedule or reschedule you will be added to the cancellation list. My goal is to work through the end of January before stepping out of the office before Baby Rybar arrives. I will be happy to refer you to another practitioner if you would like. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season and a Happy New Year! See you in 2026 đ„

May time slow down this week as those of us who celebrate Christmas tie up loose ends and may we enjoy the company we keep. Reminder that we cannot buy time, but we can share it and this week is the best time to do just that. Make it a great week! đ€ Dr. Sam

It is often said that chiropractic finds you, you do not find it. As I reflect on how life has played out over the last 5 years, Iâve found that to become true. My life as an avid runner is what led me to discover chiropractic in the first place. My biggest role model in my life is my mom, a bad a** runner who inspired me to follow in her footsteps (pun intended). After my own struggles with weight, I took to running and havenât looked back. In 2010 I ran my first marathon with my mom by my side the entire time, earning myself a Boston Qualifier. Despite getting into Boston for 2011, I was injury plagued following the marathon. An IT band injury kept me sidelined until I could rehab enough to get back to running. In 2012 I was able to run my second full marathon and in 2013 my third. After my 2013 marathon, my IT band injury returned. I took some time away from running while I finished up my undergrad career at the University of Michigan. During this time I adopted various cross-training activities to maintain my fitness level and also spent a great deal of time in physical therapy and doing rehabilitation on my own. Nothing was quite getting me back to running pain free.
Upon graduation in May 2014 with a Movement Science degree, I was back to running some but continued to be plagued by injury. I moved home with my parents and was working as a secretary in the construction field while trying to figure out what my next steps were. Not being able to run as far or as fast as I wanted to was growing old. Finally, my dad suggested I go see his chiropractor. It was my last resort, as Iâd tried just about everything to relieve the pain and get back to running like I knew I could. I remember calling to make an appointment and being told the doctor has a 6-week waiting list- the 22 year old version of myself was annoyed and couldnât comprehend a 6-week wait (we Millenials are truly all about instant gratification and this situation was no exception). I remember getting a call from the office while at work one afternoon in August of 2014 asking me if Iâd like to move my appointment up earlier as there had been a cancellation; I jumped at the opportunity and headed off to the chiropractor. I remember my first visit like it was yesterday.
I sat in the doctorâs office and she listened to my story, acknowledged my frustration with not being able to do what I loved. She took the time to examine and assess me, acknowledging how interconnected the body is and helped me understand how each of my symptoms related to each other and to the underlying dysfunction I was experiencing. After an explanation of what she had found and an explanation of how she could help, she began to treat. My initial treatment included what I now understand as dry needling, Active Release and an adjustment. I remember rolling over for a side-posture adjustment and looking up at her diploma that read âDoctor of Chiropractic.â In that moment, as the adjustment was delivered I decided to myself that I was going to be a chiropractor.
Lots happened between November 2014 and August 2015 as I preparred to move to St. Louis and start school. I drove myself down to school on August 28, 2015 and stepped out of my car into 100 degree weather with 90% humidity at 9 oâclock at night at an apartment I rented sight unseen and thought to myself âwhat did I do?â I spent time exploring the area and running at the parks nearby until school started on September 8, 2015. After that White Coat Ceremony, the next 3.5 years seemed to fly by. I spent countless hours studying and got involved in as many extracurricular activities as I could. I continued running and working out, made some incredible life-long friends, gained new mentors, traveled all over the US for seminars and fell more in love with chiropractic each and every day. I can honestly say there was not one morning that I woke up and did not want to go to school- that is something I realize is special and I will always cherish. The journey came full circle on December 22, 2018. I graduated magna cm laude with my Doctor or Chiropractic and summa cm laude with my Masters in Sport Science & Rehabilitation. Walking on graduation day was the culmination of years of hardwork, but also the start of a new journey that will require dedication, patience and sacrifice.
The journey was tough- lots of good days and bad, but Iâm thankful to have been surrounded by such inspiring and supportive people to help me through. About half way through the journey I decided that upon graduation I would start my own practice. The challenge of doing so excited me and kept me going each and every day. I am grateful to all of those who have been part of the journey and am thankful to have so many mentors in the healing arts and in business who have helped me and continue to help me turn my dreams into reality. I now understand that there is a reason for everything in life and I would not change one thing as they have all led me to where I am right now. I am so lucky that chiropractic chose me and am excited to serve in the best profession in the world for the rest of my life. After a long and winding journey, with a dream and the support of many, Element Chiropractic & Wellness is excited to serve you!
