Congratulations to all who completed the Boston marathon! We are so proud of you! Now that you’ve completed your race, here are some recommendations for recovery:
✨️
1-3 days after the race: rest and hydrate, eat protein, and participate in light movement to promote blood flow
✨️
4-7 days after the race: engage in low impact activities such as walking and jogging, and perform short runs for up to 15-20 minutes
✨️
2 weeks after the race: return to normal training activities
✨️
Additional considerations for recovery include alternating between cold and hot water for contrary bathing. Cool pools induce vasoconstriction and hot pools promote vasodilation.
✨️
It is also advantageous to get plenty of sleep in a cool temperature room, ideally without caffeine or other stimulants.

The secret to returning to running safely? Progress gradually. πŸ“ˆ πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

Increase either your running time or your distance each weekβ€”not both at the same time.

A slow build helps prevent common running injuries like shin splints, knee pain, and Achilles soreness. Stay patient. Your body will thank you! πŸ’™πŸ’™πŸ’™
