Dear Friends,

I hope that you all enjoyed the Holiday Season, and that 2026 brings you good health, happiness and success. It is now 30 years since the Hearing Rehabilitation Foundation was established, and we look forward to celebrating this anniversary with a number of events. I think we have achieved a great deal over the past 30 years, but I am just as sure that much more remains to be done. Aural Rehabilitation, especially Auditory Training, seems to have become a footnote in many places, but I believe it is a vital part of the overall service provided for people with Hearing Loss. We will keep not only providing speech communication training, but also promoting its use. One way that we intend to do this is to use social media postings to keep people up-to-date with our activities. Look for us on Facebook at Hearing Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc.

We have a number of activities planned for the coming year, but this message concerns our Open House (please see flier attached) which will be held on Sunday, February 1, 2026 from 2:00 - 4:00 at our office in Woburn. Obviously, many of you will not be able to attend, but I want to keep you abreast of our current events. If you live in Boston or surrounding areas, please come along to this event. There will be food, drink, entertainment, the opportunity to catch up with old friends and the chance to make new ones. If you are coming, please drop me a line -- hearf@aol.com -- to confirm you will be there.

Wishing you all the very best for the coming year and hope to see you here on February 1.

Advocate for Yourself with Hearing Loss

Hearing loss is often invisible, which means others may not realize when they're leaving you out. The good news? A few simple strategies can help you feel included and supported.

With Family and Friends
Ask them to face you and speak clearly.
Suggest moving to quieter spaces.
Remind them that everyone benefits when people don't talk over one another.
Communicating with Your Doctor
Tell your doctor if you can't hear clearly.
Request written instructions for care plans.
Use captioned calls (like CaptionCall Mobile) for phone conversations.
In Public
Request quieter, well-lit seating at restaurants.
Watch for hearing loop signs at theaters, airports, or public venues if you have a hearing aid with a telecoil.
At Work
Ask for captioning tools or other accommodations.
Let coworkers know how they can help (e.g., face you, add captions, use visuals).
Remember: Know what you need — and don't be afraid to ask for it. Your voice matters.
