Got to do a couple fun things and convention this year.

We were able to do several interviews at the booth with Erik Sullivan, Doug Beal, Ryan Miller, Terry Liskevych, and Kevin Hambly. And yes, I did get lost in Hambly’s eyes for a second there.

We set up and recorded several interviews with attendees of the sessions.

Got to wear Bill Hamiter’s ring that he got to commemorate his 3 gold medals at the Paralympic Games.

Oh and I took my parents and Taylor to the matches.

One of my favorite little things that make a huge impact from is that they double hi5 after each and every warm up swing.

I noticed it last year for the first time and am glad it’s a program staple for them.

Also, an absolute bomb from .kelley at the end there.

Part two.

As it says in the video, he probably didn’t need a second shuffle, but the crossover step put him in a bad position to get to the ball, so he should have taken that step forward rather than out. And this is why I prefer video review of a whole play rather than this type of view.

Film Review Friday? Who knows, might make it a thing. I do love film review.

Just a quick breakdown. This is no my preferred way of doing film. Seeing things in isolation like this is good for general skill and identifying which areas of the approach and swing can be improved, but it doesn’t give me the whole picture.

For example, I can’t tell if his tempo is off because I can’t see the setter, but we’ll work with it.

Hot Take:

This is a more effective dive move than the dolphin dive.

It has a longer reach, is less taxing on the body, and generally gets the ball higher 🤷🏻‍♂️

End of year ✌🏻

Thankful for the opportunity to coach these studs this fall and can’t wait until spring to get back to it and continue to improve.

It’s not always about the weight. Depending on the phase you’re in, you need to be aware of HOW you’re producing force.

This was for my warmup for a a couple of scrimmages this next day. But I was trying to peak my RFD about 12 hours prior to the scrimmage. And while this study from Will Saville shows results from a high pull, the numbers will still correlate.

I wasn’t producing a significant amount of force while only squatting 115 on the first set, but I did increase the Rate of Force Development by changing the tempo to match what I would be doing in game.

Also, don’t do this pre match if you’ve never done it before. Make sure your body is accustomed to it and you know that your body responds well to this type of stimulus before trying to make it your warmup. I typically do power cleans because I find them to be the most beneficial for pre match, but I had just driven for three hours and my wrists were unhappy so I stuck to squats.

Absolutely bananas play by and the crew at

The game is evolving and if you’re not working on every aspect, regardless of position, you’re going to get left behind.

Attack the gaps.

Here, our middles and setters are working on keeping the tempo when moved around the court to be able attack the gaps in the blockers.

This adds pressure to the opponent’s blockers, primarily the middles but also the pins if they get pushed into their zones.

For our middles, they are identifying where the blocker (boogie board) is in relation to their setter so they can audible the right set to attack the gaps. Being able to keep the middles involved opens up our entire offense.
