Memory issues, brain fog, or word-finding challenges after concussion, stroke, or neurological stress? 🧠 This drill — called memory saccades on the NSI (Neuro Sensorimotor Integrator)— challenges your brain and body at the same time.

In this exercise, the patient taps letters on a screen (right hand/right side, left hand/left side) while saying a word that starts with each letter — all while remembering the first letter’s location, the letter itself, and the word spoken. Add a balance component like a Bosu ball, and you’re training visual processing, cognition, coordination, and memory simultaneously.

At Neurologic Wellness Institute, we use targeted neurological exercises to activate brain networks involved in recall, processing speed, and communication — not just mask symptoms.

🧠 Motion Guidance Therapy: Training the Brain Through Movement

Motion Guidance therapy helps the brain better understand where the body is in space. Patients wear a small laser on the head and trace patterns on a wall—activating three critical systems at once:

👀 Visual system – what you see
🌀 Vestibular system – how your inner ear senses movement
🦴 Proprioceptive system – signals from neck muscles and joints

These systems meet in the brain’s central vestibular system, improving symmetry, efficiency, and communication. This therapy is especially helpful for neck pain, headaches, migraines, concussions, and whiplash-related injuries.

✨ When these systems work together, the brain works better.

Why does Dr. Kayla wear yellow glasses? 👓💡
Because light exposure directly affects your brain, energy levels, and sleep.

Blue light is naturally emitted from the sun and plays a critical role in regulating your circadian rhythm, alertness, and daytime energy. The problem arises when we spend most of our day indoors under artificial blue light.

Your brain cannot distinguish between natural sunlight and artificial blue light coming from:
• Computers
• Phones
• TVs
• Overhead and office lighting

Excess artificial blue light exposure may contribute to:
➡️ Daytime fatigue
➡️ Eye strain
➡️ A dysregulated circadian rhythm
➡️ Poor sleep quality

That’s why blue-light blocking (yellow-tinted) glasses can be a helpful tool to support wakefulness during the day and improved sleep at night, especially for those with screen-heavy or desk-based jobs.

Your environment plays a powerful role in brain health, nervous system regulation, and recovery.

“If you’re experiencing neurological symptoms, do not lose hope! NWI combines the most amazing, experienced doctors and staff with true compassion for the whole person. They begin with a thorough, noninvasive exam which gives them a window into how the brain is functioning. From there, you move to targeted therapies under a doctor’s care. These are no pill-happy bandages for bullet wounds, but a safer, effective, longer-lasting retraining of the brain, rewiring it even around disease, as Dr. George is doing with me. I have a friend who visited NWI several years ago, and her experience was as outstanding as mine. Putting your health in someone’s hands should be a sacred trust. At NWI, your challenges are met with expert care and a warrior spirit, and your progress is cheered. I can’t recommend them enough!”

What if chronic illness isn’t your body failing—but your nervous system stuck in protection mode?

On the Neurologic Wellness Podcast, Dr. Cathleen King (Primal Trust) shares how her journey through Lyme disease, mold toxicity, autoimmune illness, and nervous system collapse led her to discover healing through brain retraining, eye exercises, vagus nerve toning, somatics, and inner work.

She explains why:
🧠 Chronic illness can be a brain processing disorder
🧠 Symptoms may be memory loops—not ongoing damage
🧠 Nervous system regulation is the foundation, not the finish line
🧠 Identity, belief systems, and trauma patterns matter

This conversation reframes healing—from victimhood to empowerment.

🧠 Training the Brain’s “Brake Pedal”
This is Senaptec Choice Reaction training—a brain-based exercise designed to improve inhibition, or the brain’s ability to slow things down.

In this game, patients must quickly touch B and D while ignoring P and Q. Sounds simple… but it challenges the brain to pause, filter, and respond intentionally instead of reacting automatically.

This type of training can be especially helpful for:
⚡ Attention difficulties
😰 Anxiety and overstimulation
🛑 Heightened or impulsive responses

By strengthening inhibition, we help the brain move from reactive to regulated.

Dr. Nick talks about how vestibular stimulation can regulate mood. The vestibular system is the most basic sense that every other sense—like vision, auditory, touch—all build from. It is the foundation for the rest of the senses and feelings including emotions. Receptors in the inner ear connect to the brainstem to give basic balance and equilibrium. From the brainstem, the vestibular connections are vast to multiple areas in the brain including the higher centers for cognition and emotions. This includes connection to the limbic system, which function involves emotions and memory. For this reason, vestibular stimulation has been shown to improve multiple aspects of mood including those with depression, anxiety, aggression, and mania.

Balance Is a Sensory Skill, Not Just a Strength Skill 🧠⚖️

This test shows how the brain uses vision and proprioception to maintain balance.

🧪 What we tested:
Balanced on a BOSU ball with eyes open and then closed.
With eyes open, balance was stable.
With eyes closed, sway increased — revealing reduced proprioceptive input from the feet and joints.

🧠 Why this happens:
Proprioception tells the brain where the body is in space.
When this system underperforms, the brain compensates by relying more on vision — which limits balance when visual input is removed.

⚡ The intervention:
We increased proprioceptive input using a vibration plate, flooding the nervous system with sensory information through the feet while eliminating visual compensation.

📈 The outcome:
After only two minutes, balance improved — demonstrating how quickly the nervous system can respond to targeted sensory input.

💡 Key takeaway:
Effective balance training must address the brain and sensory systems, not just muscles.

🧠 Brain Injury at Work Isn’t About Motivation — It’s About Capacity.

Our own Dr. Mike Drzewiecki was featured in Neuro Rehab Times sharing expert insight on navigating brain injury in the workplace — and why understanding hidden neurological limitations is essential for true recovery and long-term success.

After a brain injury, employees may look “fine” but struggle with:
• Cognitive fatigue
• Slower processing speed
• Sensory overload
• Reduced mental stamina

Dr. Mike explains why recovery is about respecting brain capacity, not pushing harder — and how flexible schedules, trust, and supportive environments help people safely return to work while protecting performance and well-being.

✨ When employers understand the brain, everyone wins.

🧠 Why we start with the whole story

Before a patient ever walks into the exam room, our doctors are already listening.

At The Neurologic Wellness Institute, our doctors review each patient’s extensive intake paperwork days in advance—symptoms, timelines, injuries, illnesses, and life changes. It’s how we build a clinical roadmap before care even begins.

By the time your appointment starts, your doctor isn’t guessing. They’re connecting the dots, asking the right follow-up questions, and piecing together the complex neurological puzzle behind your symptoms.

Because better insight leads to better outcomes.
