November SNAP food benefits may be delayed
We want to let you know that if the federal government shutdown continues into November, people who get SNAP food benefits in Oregon may not get their November food benefits on time. This could affect about 757,000 people, including children, older adults and working families.

We understand this news may feel stressful. Food benefits are important and delays are hard. The Oregon Department of Human Services (ODHS) is working to keep people informed and will share updates as soon as more is known.

ODHS will post updates on its website (in English and Spanish), on its official social media, and through partner organizations and the media.

We know there is a lot of confusion and uncertainty regarding the funding of SNAP benefits in November if the government shutdown continues.

As of now, funds will not be disbursed until Congress passes and the President signs funding legislation. In the interim our friends over at Partners for a Hunger-Free Oregon have shared some tips so that SNAP recipients can stay informed and aware of any potential changes.

For now:

Oregonians should continue applying for benefits and can continue using any existing food benefits at the market and retailers. Double Up Food Bucks are available with your SNAP purchases at the market. Use your 2025 Double Up Food Bucks by the end of the year since they expire on 12/31/25 before new currency is issued for 2026.

October benefits for nutrition programs - including SNAP and WIC - are not impacted.

WIC remains open.

Public school students may still access meals at school.

Free walking program for patients in Oregon
Walking is a wonderful activity patients can do alone or with family and friends and is known to boost mood and mental health, reduce pain, and supports cardiovascular health and a strong immune system. For patients who can walk safely, the Walk With Ease self-directed, online six-week walking program is a great addition to any treatment plan. The program is free to all people who live in Oregon and does not require a referral.
