Thank you to those who show up day in and day out to serve and protect your community. Your service and sacrifice do not go unnoticed.

I have an enormous amount of gratitude for the trust you’ve given me to serve you and to continue building relationships with those in EMS, Fire, Law Enforcement, Corrections, and Dispatch.

September is Su***de Awareness Month.

Let's talk about safety plans, why they work, and how to create your own.

Safety plans are an important tool to have in your back pocket - especially when the "noise" gets too loud. Safety plans work because they are tailored to you, your needs, your abilities, and your resources. They also help us build awareness into our own warning signs (think physical symptoms or internal symptoms of racing or intrusive thoughts). Safety plans also help us build awareness into what works for us to take care of ourselves. Safety plans help us identify people we trust and what trust/safety looks like in our relationships.

It is helpful to share your safety plan with at least one person in your personal life and maybe your therapist.

It's that time - a new week which is a great opportunity to start implementing new routines AND if you are anything like me the last weeks have required some leaning into my routines.

Who needs to be focusing on the SEEDS to combat mental health - all of us.

What do you need to do get SEEDS going - not much really except for the motivation and willingness to do something different. As well as some patience and grace for yourself - you probably already know these things and sometimes we get in ruts...life happens. Now you get to take some control back.

When you think of actual seeds, they require our time, energy, consistency and intentionality to grow, develop, and take root. The same is for our routines and habits.

Where today, at home...nothing fancy is needed. If you haven't gone grocery shopping for the week add some fruits or veggies, haven't moved your body yet today go for a short walk. Don't over-complicate this one.

Why because you matter, your health matters, and you deserve to fill your own cup too.

Don't over-do-it, don't over-complicate it, just do. Now go try something new!

Have a great week! 😊

Question - when do we bring the focus to first responder wellness and mental health to the forefront of the people modeling expectations and setting policies.

From my experience within the first 4 hours of a 10 hour ride along I experienced the following - running emergent to a camper explosion, emergent to a medical for a 95 year old woman, an animal abuse/neighbor dispute, to a DUI, and then spending several hours on a mental health call that turns emergent over the course of 10 hours.

MY SYSTEM WAS JACKED and I have learned and practice my grounding skills often.

Here are some of the skills we used to regulate our bodies -

•Square breathing
•Stretching
•Squats/any large muscle movement
•Radioing others - talking through decision making
•Water

Our emotions are so cool and really helpful to know because our emotions help us understand how we are reacting to and experiencing the world and people around us.

Distortions - we all have them. When I tell you our brains are cool, they are also as****es. Our brains have us believing some of the wildest things and in our world’s most of the time our brain will hone in on the things in our lives that validate these beliefs.

What is normal grief? In my own experience with grief, I’ve learned a lot. I think the hardest part though was the push for life to be normal again knowing that I’d never be able to return to my old normal again.

I’ve learned from my own personal and professional experiences that the first two weeks after the loss life feels like a whirlwind. After those two weeks it seems like everyone else’s life goes back to normal and MY new normal just started. It’s clunky, confusing, and one weird wild ride.

Let’s normalize grief together.
