His Steps Ministries

His Steps Ministries His Steps Ministries is a Christian discipleship program that reaches out to men who are addicted to drugs and alcohol through a 6-month residency program.

Substance abusers are seeking help from the church. There is an undeniable sense that God wants to offer hope to those caught in this sinful lifestyle. However, many in the church are unsure of how to counsel those in need, and the help of secular philosophies does nothing to change the heart of the substance abuser. His Steps Ministries is different. We believe God wants to bring true and permanent change to the lives of substance abusers through the gospel of Jesus Christ, the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit, and the sufficient resources of God’s Word. We emphasize:

* A six month program tailored to establish a foundation in Biblical thinking that transforms every aspect of a life destroyed by substance abuse

* Regular accountability and discipleship from Biblical counselors

* A ministry based out of the local church and in partnership with local churches

* A Biblical approach that addresses the sins of substance abuse in Biblical terms with Biblical solutions

* God-centered HOPE

Urgent Prayer Request

Please pray for Tim Brown, the president and founder of His Steps. He was attacked by a shark while wading in the waters near Panama City. The shark bite hit an artery in his lower leg. Tim was able to tie a tourniquet around his leg and wade back to shore, but he had lost a lot of blood in the process. An ambulance has rushed Tim to a ranger station where he will be air-lifted to a hospital in Panama City. Pray for the Lord’s mercies as Tim waits to get a blood transfusion and as he attempts to recover. We'll try to update as we hear news.

Despite increasingly potent ma*****na, people continue to believe it's harmless. They have felt this way about its spiritual impact for a long time. Now the deception is moving toward their belief about its physical impact.

https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/08/160831223748.htm

An increasing number of US adults are using ma*****na, as fewer people perceive the drug as harmful, according to a survey of over 500000 US adults conducted between 2002 and 2014. As ma*****na has become increasingly potent over the past decade, the authors say that the findings suggest the need fo...

Most addicts will do anything they can to hide their addiction. But many of them are hiding more than their addiction -- they're hiding their despair as well. Now you can reach out to addicts and offer them hope. His Steps has a new rack card churches can display in their foyers. Addicts can pick them up anonymously, and find the hope they desperately need. If your church would like to display these rack cards, please message us with the church name, a contact name, and address. We'll send the rack cards out free of charge. And let us know if you need a stand to put them in. We'll include one in the package as well.

His Steps Founder and President Tim Brown just published a blog post "When Your Adult Child Is an Addict" on the ACBC website. Read it here:

June 21, 2016 When Your Adult Child is an Addict by Tim Brown Many years ago my wife and I were devastated by the realization that our son was addicted to drugs. Our Lord used this circumstance in our family to show us that His Word had the answers we were looking for. Second Peter 1:3 says, “His di...

Great article on counseling the addict from Scripture.

The majority of our substance abuse counselees come to biblical counseling having been in a secular treatment program. In those programs, they are told they have a disease and they are given “treatment” according to the medical model. When a person has been down that road with no lasting success, he...

Did you know that teenagers who view s*xually explicit material are more likely to have used alcohol or other illicit substances during their most recent s*xual encounter. The earlier someone begins using a substance, the more likely it is that he or she will become addicted. Therefore, teens who develop a p**n addiction are at a greater risk for developing a substance abuse disorder as well.

06/10/2016

Did you know that there is a significant correlation between s*xual addiction and substance use disorders.
o According to some research, an estimated 40-64% of s*x addicts also have a substance abuse disorder.
o Alcohol abuse is most common, present in 30-40%, followed by ma*****na abuse, present in 18-21.7%.

Many young college-age athletes end up at His Steps because of painkillers. Is there a connection between sports injuries (and other injuries) and addiction? And one study says yes:
https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/12/151203132747.htm

The first nationally representative studies in the US to examine the linkages between nonmedical use of opioids and he**in in high school seniors examined associations between frequency and recency of nonmedical use of opioids and he**in.

05/18/2016

Did you know: Chemically, there’s little difference between he**in and the drugs used in painkillers. Any type of surgery, even low-risk surgery, that requires pain management aftercare makes the patient 44 times more likely to be classified later as "long-term opioid user" than if they didn't have the surgery. (JAMA, 3/12/12)
