Karen Swearingen, RN shared great information about our school with the Rotary Club of Woodville.

Karen Swearingen, RN of 41 years spoke to the Woodville Rotary Club today about the Tyler County Hospital School of Vocational Nursing.

Karen, an instructor at the School of Vocational Nursing for the past 7 years, shared some of her exciting history of her time with Tyler County Hospital. She went on to explain that there are 85 vocational nursing school programs in the state of Texas. Tyler County Hospital’s is unique, being hospital-based. There are only two hospital-based schools, in the entire state. Our program is rigorous. The students start in January and graduate in December. There are three (3) full time instructors and three (3) PRN instructors. With five (5) clinical sites and instructors on site at each location observing and teaching the students as well as numerous specialty sites outside the hospital setting.

Individuals interested can contact the nursing school, [409-283-6462] to fill out an application, then take an entrance exam. There is also an essay and an in person interview process. Karen stated TCH’s School currently has the lowest tuition in the state at approximately $9,500. The school accepts VA and Workforce, which is helpful for students.

Tyler County Hospital’s School of Vocational Nursing has great pass rates.
