•Testimony Tuesday•

Our birth experience was nothing short of magical thanks to the entire team at the Women’s pavilion. We had a pretty normal birth experience but what truly moved us was the outpatient care we received as well.

I was noticing some things off with how Olsen was feeding and latching at home and decided to make an outpatient lactation consultation. Thankfully, we had Amanda who was also the lactation consultant I had during our birth stay. This appointment did not go anywhere as planned. I thought that going into it I would get some tips and tricks to help get rid of the issues we were having and make it a more pleasant feeding experience for Olsen. What I did not know was it was going to turn into the most wild weekend of our life. Amanda immediately noticed that Olsen was not acting himself, was not eating as he was during our hospital stay, and a few other symptoms. She immediately took action and started taking his vitals and called for a second opinion, and then the pediatrician on call. Amanda had caught that Olsen was in SVT (Supraventricular tachycardia). Olsen then received the best possible care from Dr. Marcy and her team. They were finally able to snap Olsen out of his SVT in less than 2 hours and get him stable enough to transport. Dr Marcy and Amanda both did not leave my husband or I’s side throughout this process including when care was transferred to the Air Bear team from Akron Children’s for transport.

I wish I could say their efforts stopped there. Amanda ensured to follow up with me throughout our stay in the PICU multiple times. Not only checking on Olsen but also checking in on myself and asking how she could help us still. You can truly tell that she cared. I joked and told her she was invited to every family Christmas moving forward because we are that grateful to her. If I could nominate Amanda for any award I would and multiple nurses and doctors at Akron Children’s agreed.

A huge thank you to the entire team at Women’s Pavilion for a wonderful birth experience and for caring so deeply for my new family. And an extra special thank you to Amanda and Dr. Marcy for everything they did.

• Testimony Tuesday•

I was admitted to the Women’s Pavilion at 38 weeks after I tested positive for an amniotic fluid leak at my routine OB appointment. (I was 3 days overdue with my first baby, so I was NOT expecting to have my second baby early!) After being admitted, we discussed induction options and how to move forward. I was very apprehensive about being induced and not having the labor experience I was hoping for this time around. My nurse, Jackie, was very encouraging and supportive with my birth preferences. I did not want to start pitocin right away, so Dr. Marcanthony fully broke my water, hoping labor would start naturally. After a couple hours and no labor in sight, we decided to start pitocin. This was at 3pm and I was 3cm dilated. After about 3 hours, intense contractions, and no change in dilation, I was happy to get an epidural. Jackie was exactly who I needed during that time and felt more like a mother to me, than a nurse. At 7:30pm (an hour and a half after epidural) I had dilated to 6cm and was so happy to have progressed that quickly already! Dr. Marcanthony came in around 8:30 (1 hr later) and checked me again and I was ready to push! I instantly started crying (happy tears of course) and told my husband to “Call my mom!!” My mom lives only a few minutes from the hospital so we waited to push until she got there while we monitored baby’s heartbeat. My mom arrived at 8:45 and baby came at 8:49! Dr. Marcanthony was amazing with the delivery and let my husband catch the baby and announce the gender. We were over the moon about having another little boy. I can’t thank Dr. Marcanthony and my nurse Jackie enough for the love they pour into their patients. Thank you both for taking such great care of me and my baby! Being induced was NOT scary whatsoever and I absolutely loved my experience at the Women’s Pavilion ❤️
