•Testimony Tuesday•

I cannot express how amazing my experience was delivering at WCH women’s pavilion! After having to get induced at 37 weeks because of IGR I was super anxious, however, the second I stepped into my hospital room that morning I felt so at peace. I cannot say enough good things about my nurse Char. She treated us like her own family and was there every step of the way. She even stayed past her shift to watch the birth of my daughter and make sure I was ok. Dr. Marcanthony delivered my beautiful girl at 7pm! I truly couldn’t imagine delivering anywhere else. I often say “ I wouldn’t change one thing about my daughter’s birth story” and the wonder team at WCH is the reason why.

Happy IBCLC day!! 🎉💗 Today we celebrate how IBCLCs transform world health by providing skilled lactation care.

What is an IBCLC?
The International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) develops specialized skills in breastfeeding care and management. The IBCLC credential is the highest certification and the only internationally recognized credential in the field of lactation. Research has shown improved breastfeeding outcomes when mothers and infants receive the services of IBCLCs. While many training courses provide certificates of completion, only the IBCLC credential denotes certification in lactation consultation.

What does an IBCLC do ?
Our lactation consultants provide evidence-based education and assistance to ALL mothers and healthcare workers regarding infant nutrition. They are experts in providing feeding support and management for a family’s entire breastfeeding journey through triumphs and challenges and everything in between.

IBCLCs are breastfeeding advocates—supporting practices that encourage breastfeeding and discouraging those that do not.

IBCLCs assist with all types of breastfeeding situations good and bad!! Consider them your personal cheerleader helping you meet YOUR feeding goals with as much information and assistance as you need and desire.

Our IBCLCs strive to make ALL Moms feel encouraged and supported. Our Lactation Department is always available for in-person appointments and they also offer virtual options too! Our breastfeeding classes and our Baby Bistro group are a great way to connect and learn more! Our IBCLCs love what they do and are proud to serve our community and beyond 🤱🏽🌎💜

Antenatal lactation visits are an essential resource for expectant parents, especially those who may face unique challenges or have specific goals regarding breastfeeding. These personalized sessions provide valuable education and support tailored to individual needs. Here’s a closer look at the key areas covered during these visits but not limited to:

•Previous Breastfeeding Difficulties
If you’ve encountered challenges in past breastfeeding experiences, antenatal visits can help you prepare for a smoother journey this time. A lactation consultant will work with you to identify potential issues and develop strategies to overcome them, ensuring you feel confident and supported.

•Private 1-on-1 Education
Every breastfeeding journey is unique. One-on-one education allows for personalized guidance tailored to your specific circumstances. This private setting encourages open discussion about your concerns, preferences, and goals, ensuring you receive the information and support you need.

•Flat or Inverted Ni***es
Flat or inverted ni***es can pose challenges for breastfeeding. During your antenatal visit, a lactation consultant can provide techniques and tools to help prepare your ni***es for breastfeeding. This may include exercises, the use of a ni**le everter, or other strategies to promote successful latching.

•Multiple Gestation
Expecting twins or more? Antenatal lactation visits can equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary for breastfeeding multiple infants. You’ll learn about positioning and how to manage the unique demands of nursing more than one baby.

•Infertility
For those who have faced infertility, the journey to breastfeeding can be particularly emotional. Antenatal visits offer a supportive environment to discuss your feelings and concerns, while also providing practical advice on how to establish and maintain a successful breastfeeding relationship.

•Planning Exclusively Pumping
If you plan to exclusively pump, antenatal visits can help you understand the mechanics of pumping, storage, and feeding. You’ll receive guidance on choosing the right pump, establishing a pumping schedule, and ensuring your baby receives the nutrition they need.

•Medication Education While Breastfeeding
Understanding how medications can affect breastfeeding is crucial. During your visit, you’ll learn about safe medications to take while nursing, as well as how to manage any necessary treatments without compromising your breastfeeding goals.

•Antenatal Hand Expression
Antenatal hand expression is a valuable technique that can be beneficial for both you and your baby. By expressing colostrum in advance, you can provide your baby with essential nutrients and antibodies right from the start, even if they face challenges with breastfeeding.

Antenatal lactation visits are a proactive step in preparing for a successful breastfeeding experience. Don’t hesitate to reach out to Women’s Pavilion Lactation Team to schedule your visit and embark on this rewarding journey with confidence.

• Testimony Tuesday•

Our rainbow daughter was born in January 2025, healthy and beautiful.

Our experience with Bloomington Women’s Care and the Wooster Women’s Pavilion is still memorable. Their care and expertise made having our first birth not overwhelming, but beautiful and comforting.

I was not showing signs of labor at 40 weeks so we scheduled an induction at 41 weeks. This method worked so well that I was unexpectedly dilating quickly. Because of that there was a lot of stress on the baby and myself so we had a C section. Everything went well and soon we were holding our baby girl.

I never once doubted those who cared for us. They are experts in their field PLUS they were compassionate.

Every single provider at Bloomington cared for my heart and our family as a whole. I felt seen and cared for throughout my pregnancy and after our child was born. They answered all my questions, celebrated every milestone, and kept us accountable to making healthy choices.

The Women’s Pavilion team never made me feel self conscious, but empowered to deliver my baby. They answered my questions and didn’t hesitate to include my husband in the experience. The classes the hospital offers were foundational to our success during labor, delivery, and the newborn season.

The lactation team was instrumental in caring for our daughter in her first few months, the way they cared for me and then empowered me to make the best choices for me and baby was so amazing. They also gave me the resources to continue caring for my daughter when I had to go back to work.

If we ever have the blessing of more children, we want to go back to these amazing people at Bloomington and Wooster Community Hospital.

Because of them and others who supported us we get to experience the joy and challenges of parenthood. We are so grateful.
