I was admitted to the Women’s Pavilion at 38 weeks after I tested positive for an amniotic fluid leak at my routine OB appointment. (I was 3 days overdue with my first baby, so I was NOT expecting to have my second baby early!) After being admitted, we discussed induction options and how to move forward. I was very apprehensive about being induced and not having the labor experience I was hoping for this time around. My nurse, Jackie, was very encouraging and supportive with my birth preferences. I did not want to start pitocin right away, so Dr. Marcanthony fully broke my water, hoping labor would start naturally. After a couple hours and no labor in sight, we decided to start pitocin. This was at 3pm and I was 3cm dilated. After about 3 hours, intense contractions, and no change in dilation, I was happy to get an epidural. Jackie was exactly who I needed during that time and felt more like a mother to me, than a nurse. At 7:30pm (an hour and a half after epidural) I had dilated to 6cm and was so happy to have progressed that quickly already! Dr. Marcanthony came in around 8:30 (1 hr later) and checked me again and I was ready to push! I instantly started crying (happy tears of course) and told my husband to “Call my mom!!” My mom lives only a few minutes from the hospital so we waited to push until she got there while we monitored baby’s heartbeat. My mom arrived at 8:45 and baby came at 8:49! Dr. Marcanthony was amazing with the delivery and let my husband catch the baby and announce the gender. We were over the moon about having another little boy. I can’t thank Dr. Marcanthony and my nurse Jackie enough for the love they pour into their patients. Thank you both for taking such great care of me and my baby! Being induced was NOT scary whatsoever and I absolutely loved my experience at the Women’s Pavilion ❤️
