Did you know?
About 1 in 4 adults now has fatty liver disease — and many don’t even know it.
It’s now the most common liver condition and is closely tied to blood sugar, weight gain around the abdomen, high triglycerides, and fatigue.

The good news is the liver can regenerate when you give it the right support — nutrition, lifestyle changes, and targeted therapies like Phosphatidylcholine (PC) infusions can be powerful tools to help support liver repair and fat metabolism.

If you’ve been told you have fatty liver or elevated liver enzymes, ask us how we can help support your liver and overall metabolic health.

Protein powders are an easy way to get extra protein in if your diet needs a boost. There are pro's and con's to each type, however the most important thing is purchasing good quality products, as many are filled with artificial sweeteners, flavours and other additives.

Whey protein - Derived from cows milk, whey protein generally contains a higher protein content per scoop than other types. It’s easily absorbed and a complete protein. It’s not suitable for those with lactose intolerance or for vegans.

Plant-based protein - Made from a variety of sources such as rice, peas, h**p or soy. Generally contains less protein per scoop than whey and can be a bit grittier. Many find it gentler on the stomach than whey protein.

Collagen - Extracted from animal connective tissues (typically from bovine or fish). Collagen peptides are hydrolyzed, making them easier to digest and absorb. They have the added benefit of helping to maintain healthy skin, hair, nails, and joints. Collagen lacks some amino acids, particularly tryptophan, so it’s not ideal as a sole protein powder alternative. It’s also not suitable for vegans or vegetarians.

Protein Needs

Protein requirements vary depending on your body weight, activity level, and overall health goals. A simple way to estimate your daily protein needs is to base it on your weight in pounds.

🌟For general health:
Aim for about 0.5–0.7 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
💪For muscle building, healing, or active lifestyles:
Aim for about 0.7–1.0 grams of protein per pound of body weight.
🌿If you eat mostly plant-based proteins:
You may need a little more, since plant proteins are not absorbed as efficiently. Aim toward the higher end of the range.
Simple Equation

🟰Your body weight (in pounds) × 0.5–1.0 = grams of protein per day

Example

If you weigh 150 pounds:

General health: 150 × 0.6 = 90 grams of protein per day
Building muscle / plant-based: 150 × 0.8 = 120 grams of protein per day
Key Point

It’s not just about getting enough protein — it’s also important to eat a variety of protein sources so your body gets all the essential amino acids it needs to heal, repair, and function properly.

Protein is made up of smaller building blocks called amino acids, and nine of these are considered essential because our bodies cannot make them—we must get them from food.

Each amino acid plays a different role in the body. For example, tryptophan helps produce serotonin (which affects mood and sleep), while glutamine helps support and repair the gut lining.

This is why it’s important not only to eat enough protein, but also to eat a variety of protein sources so your body gets all of the essential amino acids it needs to function and heal properly.

✨ Are You Actually Eating Enough Protein? ✨

It’s one of the most common things we see…
people think they’re getting enough protein—but their body says otherwise.

Your body may be asking for more protein if you’re experiencing:

• Weak muscles or difficulty building/maintaining muscle
• Hair thinning, brittle nails, or dry, flaky skin
• Blood sugar swings, energy crashes, or constant sugar cravings
• Mood changes like irritability, anxiety, or low mood
• Getting sick often or struggling to fight off infections

👉 Protein isn’t just about muscles…
it’s essential for hormones, blood sugar balance, immune strength, and overall healing.

When your body doesn’t have enough, it will let you know.

💛 If you’ve been feeling off, this could be a simple—but powerful—place to start.

Cellular Energy Starts Here

One of the most common things we hear is, “I’m just so tired.”
Low energy, slow recovery, brain fog, feeling like your body just isn’t keeping up anymore…

That’s where NMN 1000 by Healthgevity comes in.

NMN works at the cellular level to support NAD+ production — which plays a key role in cellular energy, recovery, brain function, and overall well-being. This is one of our favorite products for supporting the body from the inside out, especially as we age and our natural NAD+ levels decline.

If you’re looking for support with energy, mental clarity, recovery, and healthy aging, this is a great place to start.

Available Here at Arukah Functional Wellness.
Your body is designed to heal and repair — sometimes it just needs the right support.

✨ Feeling Off? It Might Be Your Iron… But Not the Way You Think ✨

Iron deficiency doesn’t always scream “low iron” on basic labs… and it can show up in ways most people don’t expect.

Your body might be trying to tell you something if you’re experiencing:
• Fatigue (even after a full night’s sleep)
• Hair thinning or loss
• Dizziness or lightheadedness
• Heart palpitations
• Pale or dull skin
• Brittle hair & nails
• Cold hands and feet
• Frequent headaches
• Anxiety or feeling “on edge”

👉 Here’s the truth: a simple iron level isn’t enough.

At Arukah, we look deeper with functional bloodwork, including:
✔️ Iron
✔️ Ferritin (your iron storage)
✔️ TIBC (Total Iron Binding Capacity)
✔️ Iron Saturation

Because you can have “normal” iron… and still be functionally deficient.

This is where root-cause care matters.
We don’t just ask “Are your labs in range?”
We ask → “Are they optimal for how your body was designed to function?”

💛 If something feels off, don’t ignore it.
Your body is always communicating.

Ready to get answers?
Schedule a Functional Bloodwork Assessment and let’s take a deeper look.

Iron has so many roles in your body including:

Energy Production: Iron is a key component of hemoglobin, which transports oxygen to cells, fueling energy production and reducing fatigue.

Immune Support: Iron plays a role in the production of immune cells, helping the body defend against infections.

Cognitive Function: Adequate iron supports brain health, including memory, focus, and overall mental clarity.

Hormone Production: Iron is essential for synthesizing certain hormones, including thyroid hormones, which regulate metabolism and energy.

Mood Stability: Iron is involved in neurotransmitter production, which plays a role in regulating mood and emotions.

Skin, Hair, and Nail Health: Iron ensures optimal oxygen delivery to tissues, supporting vibrant skin, healthy hair, and strong nails.

For this reason, iron deficiency can have far-reaching implications for your health. Ideally you should have your iron levels tested yearly.

Did you know that how you prepare for a blood test can impact the accuracy of your results?

For example not fasting for long enough can alter your liver markers, electrolytes, iron & cholesterol. Exercise before your test can alter your blood sugar & thyroid markers. And dehydration can affect your red blood cell markers.

It's important to:
- Always fast for 8-10 hours beforehand (no more than 12)

- Avoid exercising on the day & no high intensity exercise 1-2 days prior.

- Stop taking your supplements 3+ days prior

- Avoid testing when you're unwell (for routine bloods)

- Hydrate before the test
