🎄💥 How Stress Chemistry Shuts Down Immunity

👉🏼The stress response significantly influences immune function. Elevated cortisol decreases mucosal immune activity, lowers secretory IgA, and suppresses lymphocyte production. Stress chemistry also alters gut motility, reduces digestion efficiency, and increases inflammatory mediators. As these patterns accumulate through the holiday season, the immune system’s ability to respond effectively is reduced. This is a primary physiological reason why many individuals experience illness following periods of extended stress.

Here’s why👉🏼
Many people remain healthy throughout the holiday season, but become sick shortly after it ends. During December, the body runs on elevated stress hormones, reduced sleep, inconsistent nutrition, and higher sugar and alcohol intake. These factors suppress the immune system by lowering secretory IgA, reducing lymphocyte efficiency, and increasing inflammation. When the holidays end and stress levels drop, the suppressed immune system becomes evident, often leading to fatigue, respiratory symptoms, sinus issues, and general immune vulnerability.
