🌱Novembers Herb of the Month is Barberry Root! 🌱

While the entire plant (root, leaf, flower, bark, berry and stem) contains medicinal chemical compounds, at the apothecary, we most often are working with the root of the Barberry plant.

Within the root, we find naturally occurring, high concentrations of the star of Barberry root’s show: berberine🤗

It may support metabolic health, support a healthy weight, improve digestion and/or foster a healthier gut microbiome.

These are just a few ways Barberry may support the body through its bright yellow berberine (so bright she’s also been used for a bazillion years as a natural fabric dye!)

October’s Herb of the Month is Licorice root!

00More than just a sweetie, licorice root has been proving herself a reliable and steadfast ally to have on hand to support the body through a variety of ailments, with documented use spanning over 2000 years.

Considering her antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties,
today, in our own homes, we might consider adding licorice root to an herbal blend for ourselves or a loved one to potentially help shorten the duration and severity of a sore throat or cough.

Thank us later parents…in our experience, kiddos tend to welcome
warm, sweet, soothing licorice tea to ease their way through unpleasant respiratory symptoms.

We’d also think of licorice root as a potential option if there was a need to reduce inflammation along the digestive tract in order to provide support and ease discomforting symptoms.

In terms of ongoing support, licorice root comes to mind for the protection she offers to the liver. We love how licorice root helps encourage the body to restore glutathione (our master antioxidant) levels the good ‘ole fashioned way… with plants of the earth. 🌿❤️

Feminine hygiene can be an uncomfortable topic and is not always talked about, but we’re going to jump right into it! Sometime a plain ol’ bar of soap just doesn’t do it for those more delicate areas. The feminine washes you see on the shelves can be loaded with toxic chemicals we don’t want on our bodies, never mind absorbed through such sensitive tissue.
