From April 27 to May 1, UMass Memorial Medical Center celebrates Patient Experience Week.

Inspired by The Beryl Institute, a global non-profit organization dedicated to improving patient experience and elevating the human experience in health care, Patient Experience Week provides a focused time for health care organizations to celebrate their accomplishments and honor the people who positively impact patient and family experiences every day.

Every year during National Patient Experience Week, we celebrate our nurses and physicians, the essential contributions of our support staff and leaders, our patients, families, and the communities we serve.

On this final day of , we’re honored to share Annie Cohn and Kasey Poulin’s four‑year journey to parenthood.

After early attempts “didn’t feel personalized, inclusive or responsive,” everything changed when they moved their care to UMass Memorial’s Fertility Center. “When we switched, it was completely different; the care felt individualized, supportive, and truly patient-centered,” Annie says.

Dr. Caitlin Sacha, reproductive endocrinology and infertility (REI) specialist shares, “Annie was fortunate to produce a normal embryo on her first IVF attempt and this embryo successfully implanted.”

As Annie puts it, “It worked on the first try… That one embryo became our son.”
Teddy arrived in January after a long labor. “We joked that he was hard to get in and hard to get out but perfect on both sides,” says Kasey.

Annie calls it a full‑circle moment: “We always say he’s a ‘UMass Memorial baby’ from start to finish. He quite literally wouldn’t exist without the Fertility Center and REI team.”

Let’s hear it for Maya Raghavan and Jason Kauper, who are running the Boston Marathon to support the UMass Memorial Deployable Medical Team.

The UMass Memorial Deployable Medical Team is one of only two disaster medical teams in the State, specifically designed to provide advanced medical care during a catastrophic event in Massachusetts. The hospital hosted team is fully managed by UMass Memorial but is “on call” by order of the Governor to respond to events in our state and to be present to our neighbors in times of crisis.

UMass Memorial Caregivers can deploy to anywhere in the Commonwealth when called upon by the Governor’s office through the MA DPH. Our missions may include responses to natural disasters, catastrophic system failures, and mass casualty events.

There’s still time to support Maya and Jason!
